too play dvd movies on a pc you need a software decoder , which is why it is saying no compatible dvd decoder. download vlc player that will play dvd movies for you ,for free. Or buy powerdvd

Control panel,administrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll to cd/dvd rom drives right click properties then properties again then tick enable cd digital cd audio for this cd rom device or scroll to dvd regions select no _ for your specific area

Wow i have the exact same problem with my X50N. I tried re-installing my DVD decoder and that worked, but the next time I tried to play a DVD it didn't work :( i'll update if i find a solution.

hi you lost decoder driver on you pc . you get free software decoder , and get play any dvd/cd . you download free software decoder and install and ready play.

need to install ASUSDVD player...the problem with my DVD is that it can play DVD movies or videos but it cannot write on DVD discs...please help... thanks...

you need powerdvd or windvd which has the decoder for dvd. can it read regular data cd's ? like install a program?
