The condition of the fuel lines as well as fuel filter plugging and carburetor plugging are all part of the priming path--the fuel should be drawn from the tank through the filter, up to the carburetor, then out of the carburetor to the primer bulb, and from there back to the tank in another short line. Rubber fuel lines seem to decay at the ends causing air leaks. Make sure that you returned the fuel lines to the same connections on the new primer. Hope this helps!

Primers pull fuel from the carb and dumps it back into the tank, so if the bulb will not prime the chances are the fuel filter in the tank is blocked, pull the fuel hose through the filer hole and replace the filter on the end.

Are you sure you have conected the pipes the correct way round, the fuel hose from the tank with the filter on the end goes to the main fuel inlet on the carb, nearest to the alloy pump cover, the other conection off the carb goes to the shorter conection on the back of the primer, the longer pipe on the primer goes back to the tank, just remember the primer pulls fuel from the carb, into the bulb, and back to the tank.

How to replace the fuel primer bulb and fuel lines in McCulloch 3516 chainsaw? the fuel primer bulb broke and the plastic lines have crumbled. i need to know how to run the lines from the fuel tank to...

I just did a primer bulb not too long ago, but I don't remember what equipment it was on. They are generally easy to replace. First, remove anything that is retaining the bulb assembly, such as cover plate. On my Homelite chainsaw, I simply pried it out with a small screwdriver.
The replacement part itself has two barbed stubs that the two fuel line hoses push onto.
Make sure that you keep the fuel line tubes above the fuel level at all times to prevent leakage.

Homelite chain saw fuel system

The line at the back of the tank gets the filter (check it for plugging) and the one nearest the cap doesn't use a filter (it is the return line from the primer bulb). The filtered line goes directly to the carburetor inlet port and the outlet port allows fuel to be pulled through the carburetor and out to the primer port. Check and replace any fuel lines that are in poor condition. If the engine has been running with the intake filter missing, the interior of the carburetor may be full of debris. Remove, dismantle, and clean the carburetor interior. Go to: http://www.drystacked.com for an excellent 12 page article on Walbro carburetor theory and troubleshooting. Hope this helps!

My homelite chain saw will only run after I prime the fuel once gas runs out engine stops running but reprime fuel the saw will run until fuel runs out any suggestions

Did you replace the fuel lines? If the filtered hose feeds the primer that is exactly what happens. Your fuel system should be similar to this.
Fuel Line Replacement
  • The hose in the tank with the filter on the free end connects directly to the carburetor input connection.
  • If the saw is equipped with a primer bulb, an output line from the carburetor connects to the suction side of the primer (once the bulb is collapsed it draws fuel from the tank through the carburetor to refill as it inflates).
  • The pressure side of the primer returns displaced fuel to the tank as it is depressed.

Has Ryobi RCS 3535A chainsaw a fuel bulb priming

The numbers you supply don't cross to an operators manual but that is typical of Homelite/Ryobi. I'm going to make an educated guess that it does not have a primer system. Other Ryobi saws with primer systems include it in the specification. The 3535A does not. Close scrutiny reveals no primer.
IMO fuel primers on chainsaws are one more source of problems. In the USA ethanol additives attack fuel hoses. Without a primer routing is from the fuel tank directly to the carburetor and much simpler to replace. Primers on chainsaws operate differently than 4 cycle engines too. No fuel is injected into the carburetor or engine, its only purpose is to ensure the carburetor is full of fuel,
Typical Fuel hose routing:
  • The hose in the tank with the filter on the free end connects directly to the carburetor input connection.
  • If the saw is equipped with a primer bulb, an output line from the carburetor connects to the suction side of the primer (once the bulb is collapsed it draws fuel from the tank through the carburetor to refill as it inflates).
  • The pressure side of the primer returns displaced fuel to the tank as it is depressed.

PRIMER BULB WONT PRIME

I would recheck the carburetor to make sure you put the diaphragms next to the carburetor and not the gaskets.
Please if it is not priming you may have the fuel lines hooked up wrong. Also check the fuel cap to make sure the vent assembly is there. If the tank is not venting, the tank will get a vacuum in it not allowing fuel to flow.
