It is some kind of female USB but has a plastic strip across with 8 contacts ...my question has to do with finding a way to charge it without carrying around the docking station but rather getting a usb cable with an adapter that will work ...a much nicer solution !!

On wikipedia I found this: "Many digital cameras have a tiny 8 pin connector that combines USB with video and audio out." Does anyone know which cameras might use that type of connector...I might be able to get a USB cable for one of those other cameras which might allow me, at least, to charge the camera, or even with luck to connect to the PC without the cumbersome docking station. Oddly enough, the docking station for the SV-AS10 connects to AC via a standard brick/jack and to the PC via a standard miniUSB to USB-A cable (someone at Panasonic must have recognized that nobody has that 8pin thing on the camera). Thus, the docking station becomes essentially a miniUSB to 8pin proprietary firewire with video cable connection translation device. I would like to eliminate that!
