The flash on my finepix s5000 is firing too hot or something like that. all pictures taken are washed out and you can't even see who or what is in the photo. if i cover the flash with my hand this helps but is not taking the best quality picture. is there a way to fix this? i can't find my instruction manual.

Don`t own this model Fuji but on my F30 you find the flash symbol (lightning bolt) on rear buttons or internal menu & choose forced flash & then flash fires everytime even in daylight
Have you tried removing the actual lens(?) to see if there's something inside the camera house that's not supposed to be there. I'd find it highly unlikely that the, thou who knows. The best thing to do, would be to drop it off at your local camera repair-store.
My Fuji has started doing the same thing!
The only way I can get a reasonably exposed photo is to place a piece of white paper in front of the flash to act as a diffuser.
Any info you can find out would be appreciated...even if to know that this is a permanent situation.
Still takes GREAT outdoor and moon shots!
I would double check your batteries, even try some regular AA's just to make sure since it sounds like a power issue with your camera. I have seen this on my my S5000 before, a faulty rechargable causing it to shut off when a picture is taken.
Hi
I have got an S5000 that I can still view previously taken pictures from the card, but when trying to take pictures the screen and view finder shows a peculiar distorted purple and green picture and any picture taken is just a green blur.
I contacted Fuji and they say they can repair it for £90 (about $120)
First of all, you do not need Finepix viewer. Make sure the USB cable is properly connected to camera and PC. Ensure that you have installed the driver for the s5000 if you do not have Windows XP. Then select "view" and the pictures taken should be copied to any photo prgram you select. or try a different cable if this does not work.
This appears to be loose connector to the motherboatd from the screen. Try gentle squeezing of the casing near the bottom of the body This may do the trick- otheriwise it is a workshop job and frankly not worth the cost - the money would be better spent on a more uptodate camera.
