The temp control in the fridge actually moves the flap the opens and closes in the venting between fridge and freezer. This vent can get stuck or frozen in one direction. A good thawing out which is recommend once a year for any unit is not a bad idea.
Thawing of this vent and flap are a good idea. Once it is thawed out or unstuck, then move the temp control around to see if the flap will move. Then you can turn it down so freezer is colder and fridge is not freezing up.
