My maytag neptune dryer has stopped working. It will occasionally start with a light load in dryer. But, most of the time it will not begin the turning process. There is a humming sound when it does not begin turning. Any suggestions or additional questions?

Try putting a light in the plug with the dryer and try again, if it dimes or goes out you have an electrical problem.

what is the model number,sounds like you have a bad computer board but the problem is alot of parts for the neptune are no longer available

This is either your start switch or your motor that is bad. I would suggest you begin with the start switch. We love Maytag appliances and we also love the moisture monitor on this model of dryer.

you want to start at high limit thermostat or thermal fuse
its white and has two small wires
it sits on the heat tube
it could be black too
it is shaped like a warped ball
and is rather flat

Fixed the problem, not the machine, needed a new dryer vent. Just unhooked the vent and
the dryer worked perfectly. V

Maybe a water fill problem ,washer will stop if no or not enough water enters the tub in a given time

cold water valve screen plugged or bad valve, just check it!

replace motor it would hold a load and is kicking out on over load switch

Check for low water pressure. Clear screens in inlet valve. Do-not remove screens. This unit will turn off if not filled in specified time.
