Ome LCD monitors have inbuilt speakers and a headphone socket that can be very handy if, say, you're using a website that provides sound, such as the free language tutorials on http://www.bbc.co.uk. The internal speakers, of course, have to be connected to a sound card, just as external speakers have to be.

The inbuilt speakers in an LCD monitor are fine for the sound produced by websites, but if you want to use your computer to watch DVD movies, most authoratitive sources recommend the use of a separate sound system.

Most LCD monitors have an aspect ratio (see further down the page for more information on this) of 4:3, simply because the standard display resolutions (see further down the page for more information on this) such as 800X600 and 1024X768 have a height-to-width ratio of 4:3, which is what the aspect ratio is.

An aspect ratio of 4:3 is equivalent to the screen being viewed in the landscape printing orientation, and as such is ideal for dealing with documents, such as large spreadsheets, that are wider than they are high. But most document pages are best viewed in the portrait orientation, in which the height of the page is greater than its width. Therefore, some LCD monitors can be rotated through 90 degrees so that they can be viewed in the portrait orientation.

The monitors that allow rotation usually also come with the software that changes the output from the computer to match the portrait orientation of the screen. Pivot Pro is a good example of such software.

My inbuilt sound doesnt work but when plug to a speaker it works. why is it like this?

On the spec sheet from Dell it says you have to have selected monitors with inbuilt speakers for sound. The monitor model that you have may not have inbuilt speakers.

Sound???

You will not get any sound from a monitor if it does not have built in speakers. If it does have speakers, is it plugged into the computer?

I have a liteview moniter but when connected to my computer it has no sound is there somthing wrong with the comp or the moniter

Most monitors dont have built in sound so check for a sound connection from the monitor. Check the cable where it connects to the PC, if there is a small light stereo plug, stick it into the light green connector on the back of the PC tower. The standard video cable does not have the connections for audio. If you are using a HD monitor that has inbuilt speakers, try using the HDMI connector if it has one, this does have the audio inbuilt, Some DVI cables have inbuilt audio, some do not, look for small round 2.5 mm stereo plugs not connected into anything..

No sound from inbuilt speakers

this may be a second post since it appears that fixya didn't take the first one:

you should have a speaker cable in addtion to the monitor cable (big thick cable) coming from the monitor. the speaker cable (much thinner with similar plug as free standing speakers) needs to be plugged into the sound output jack on the back of your computer (jack is possibly colored green).

No sound from my pc speakers

You don't have the drivers loaded for your motherboard. Go to the home page of the company that makes your system then go to the DRIVERS section. Find your make and model and download and install the drivers. You may have to reboot your system for the drivers to kick in.

Monitor INBUILT SPEAKER not working

The audio cable should be from your computer's Audio Out (Green) Jack to the Monitor's Audio In jack next to the AC connection.

Sound

If your monitor have inbuilt speaker, then you need not to plug it, because the monitor cable will work for that. I have ViewSonic 19" with inbuilt speaker and its working without any extra cable or connection.

Thanks

Speakers dont work

They are built into the monitor, however there is a cable that needs to be connected from the speaker socket of your sound card (normally colour coded green) to the audio in on the back of your monitor.  If this is done already, you need to check your volume settings on both your PC and on the monitor (remembering to check for any "Mute" settings)
