Pictures With the nikon d40x is it possible to take a black and white photo and have one object in color?

  • Anonymous Jul 18, 2008

Well I know that some camera's actually do this as my friend has a camera that allows her to do so but it is one of the cannon point and shoot camera's. So I thought mine might be able to as well.

You would have to do this using a photo editing software. I know from my own experience that this can be done with either Photo Shop or Photo Shop Elements, but there are also many other software packages that can do this.

I think it's one or the other because the camera doesn't know what you want to color and what you don't want to color. Thats something more for Photoshop to do.

When i view my pictures certain white images have black color flashing in them

That flashing is the part of the image that is overexposed. See camera manual. Meter off a neutral part of the image.

How to take photos in black and white for Nikon 40dx? What is the normal setting of Nikon 40dx? Please send me a manual for Nikon 40dx?

Here's the manual (free download)
http://safemanuals.com/user-guide-instructions-owner-manual/NIKON/D40X-_E

Black and white is a menu option......

Select > Shooting menu
Select > Optimise image
Select > Black and white

Page 68 of the manual has full details of other options.

Note that you can also change photos to black and white in good post processing packages (such as Adobe Photoshop), although invariably there is some quality loss over original capture.

I took pictures from my nikon d40x but all photos are displayed black in lcd. Would you know how to fix this error?

If your LCD screen works normally as a viewfinder and lets you review photos then your shutter is likely stuck in the closed position. If the display is black in all modes your LCD display is bad. Unfortunately, there is no safe DIY fix for either problem. The camera will require professional repair.

White Pictures

if the camera is on a very reflective surface such as sasnd or snow, sometimes the light meter can be fooled and so you have to try to find a snow mode or manually increace the apeture or shutterspeed or lower the ISO you might also check to see if the camera is set on a very high ISO, or very low apeture or shutter speed, another possibility is that the exposure level is set very high or is locked so the camera will over expose, also if you focus the camera on a dark object, then the rest of the picture will be over exposed, so try to focus on a object that is about halfway between black and white.

LCD show purple or violet cast on white areas when using auto mode

Have you tried viewing the photos on a computer or printing them? There should also be parts of the menu/setting displays that would be white. The text on the image info should be in white.
If you are getting white, it would suggest your whitebalance isn't set correctly. If everything has a purple tint to it, check your LCD display settings, otherwise it may be the screen is failing.

Nikon d40x dslr

Can you write your pics to a CD then take that for printing. I have had same probs with CF cards in my Nikon 8700, any editing of the card can, but not always, prevent the images being found.
