The screen says the "back cover is open" and

You press Menu/Set 2,0,3, then press up/down arrows set faxibility to on. Press menu/Set, then press up/down arrows to turn call waiting on or off. Press Menu/Set and lastly press Exit/Stop.

go to printing option .setting paper source automatic.setting paper size or press go button.

You have to open the printer and set it back into the ph carrier.
1) Remove Plastic wire covers from inside printers, and release plastic stay on lower edge, tilt cover to 90 Degrees 2) make a note of where each connector goes 3) release the Ribbon and 3 Multicolor cables, removing grounding screw, then remove scanner module by sliding it off the hinges at 90 degrees. 4) Remove Three Front Panel Screws, carefully leaver front panel upwards releasing front side clips.5) Remove front panel by disconnecting ribbon and wiring on both sides.6) Remove 6 Screws (2 on back, three at front and one middle right7) Carefully remove speaker cable (Red Connector) and lift up plastic casing, leaving printer uncovered.8) Re-Seat Encoder Strip.9) Re-assemble in reverse.

It could be that the cover sensor is stuck or could also be due to the cartridges in the printer. Please follow the steps below on how to identify and fix the problem:

1. Remove the sheets of paper from the feeder.
2. Open the printer cover and remove the cartridges.
3. Close the printer cover.
4. Re-brick your printer by pulling out power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds.
5. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge first.
6. Close the printer cover and check for any errors.
7. Reinsert the other cartridge.
8. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear.
9. If no error appears, reload some sheets of paper and try to print a document again to verify that problem is fixed.

I have a Brother HL-3040cn printer, led display says "unable to print 1A" how do i clear this? It also says to turn the power off and open the top cover wait 30 minutes then turn it back on. But this doesnt work?

this like your cartridge has problem with connection
open printer cover/door
then disconnect your printer cartridge, both the color and black, then connect the cartridge again
close the printer cover/door
try to print again, if message still appear, it mean you need to change your cartridge with new one

Open back cover -- paper sheet should be on roll accessible from back, once cover is removed

Try resetting the printer:
Reset the printer
-Disconnect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable from the back of the printer, but leave the printer turned on.
-Open the cover of the printer and remove the print cartridges.
-Close the cover and wait for the Insert Ink Cartridges message.
-Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and wait for one minute.
-Reconnect the power cord. If the printer does not automatically turn on, press the Power button.
-Open the cover and reinsert the print cartridges.
-Close the cover. If prompted, print a calibration page.
-Reconnect the USB cable, and try to print a print job from the computer.
