If the recovery option wont work it is better for you to use the recovery disk that comes with the machine so that you can go back to it original state

The way to restore Gateways is to hold down the ALT Key and repeatedly hitting f10 then it should bring you to a boot sequence screen then choose the HDD and then hold down ALT and repeatedly hit f10 again.
That should prompt the restore feature for gateway.
with a "Restore from factory default" option. This loads the system partition (C:) from the recovery partition (hidden). It does wipe every thing out on the C: drive to be like it was when new.

How do i get a back door password for my acer aspire 5315 as i forgot my password

There is no back door password but you can try this

At the Acer splash screen, you can press Alt and F10 to bring up a DOS style version of eRecovery. The unit is able to reload Windows from this mode faster then from CD. If the hard drive is replaced the system loses its eRecovery features. These features are on the hard drive and cannot be reinstalled
  • Be sure that you back up your data files before performing this option. All of your personal data files and applications are erased during the recovery process.
  • Due to the large number of virus and Spyware threats on the Internet, it is recommended that you disconnect all Internet connections before performing the recovery. After the recovery, antivirus and firewall software can be installed, and then the Internet connection can be re-enabled to update the antivirus definitions and perform Microsoft® Windows Updates.
  1. Remove all CDs or DVDs from the optical drives.
  2. Turn off the computer, using the normal Windows shut down process.
  3. After the computer is turned off, disconnect all USB devices except the keyboard and mouse. This includes USB devices such as a printer, scanner, removable storage, or camera.
  4. Turn on the computer. After the Gateway BIOS logo appears, press ALT+F10. The easiest method is to hold down the ALT key and repeatedly press the F10 key.
5.Windows loads files. 6. If you get EDIT BOOT OPTIONS for Windows Setup hit the ENTER key 6.1. If you get EDIT BOOT OPTIONS for Windows 7 , Try ALT + F10 (ALT on the right side of the Space bar) 7. You will get the Recovery console , Select completly Restor to Factory Settings.

Acer aspire 6920 back to factory settings

Acer sent me these instructions.

The other way before Vista starts up is to tap ALT + F10 (at the same time repeatedly) when the computer is first switched on.. The window of opportunity is very small, so this may take a few attempts

Once you have tapped both the ALT and F10 repeatedly, you may see a screen showing:

“Edit Boot options for Microsoft Windows Vista”

If you see this, unfortunately, you have missed the window of opportunity, and you need to restart, and try again.

If you see this:
“Edit Boot options for Windows Setup” OR “Edit Boot options for Acer eRecovery”

Then it indicates that you have tapped the ALT + F10 correctly, and all you now need to do is press “Enter” and the Recovery program should load on your screen after a short pause..

In some cases, you may need to remove the battery (for notebooks only) and run the machine directly from the mains.

The Disk2Disk recovery feature allows you to recover the system without recovery CDs.

This will return your system to factory settings and will delete everything stored on the machine.
If possible we strongly advise backing up anything important on your machine before starting the recovery process.
