Question about Viking 27" Professional Select Built-in Electric Single Wall Oven

1 Answer

The stem/shaft that holds the oven knob seems to be broken--the knob turns but does not turn the shaft. Is this a repair an amateur can do and what part do I need?

First pull the knob off the shaft and check to see if its broken where the shaft is supposed to lock-in if so u jus need a new knob. if not you have to pull the panel off the stove and replace the shaft this shouldnt be too difficult either way.

My oven wont turn off from the knob it keeps turning

You didn't say whether you have a gas or electric oven, or oven & stove. I'll assume you have a stove, just to cover all bases.

First, you should shut down the oven: a gas stove will have a valve on the gas line behind the stove. The valve will either have a red handle or a flat stem that usually has a hole in it. Turn either valve 1/4 turn to shut off gas, use a wrench on the flat stem. An electric stove should be shut off by flipping off the double circuit breaker for it in your electric panel. Do not unplug an electric stove when it is on; this can damage the plug &/or electrocute you.

Most likely the inside of the knob has stripped out. Look at the knob for a hole that has a setscrew in it: a small allen wrench or screwdriver will loosen the setscrew, most knobs don't have them and will pull off. Be careful to use even pressure on two sides of the knob; if you can't pull it off, use two butter knives or flat screw drivers to pry it up enough to get a grip on it.

Look at the center stem on the back of the knob, it will likely be cracked or stripped. Some stems have a D-shaped metal insert that strips out inside the plastic stem. If you have one, pull off a burner knob and compare the stems in the back, if they are the same size, put the burner knob on the shaft for the oven control, and use that knob to turn the oven control off.

If the burner knob won't fit, use your fingers or a pair of pliers (gently) to turn off the oven control shaft. If the shaft stops normally, you can turn the stove back on using either the gas valve or the circuit breaker. If you have a gas stove that doesn't have electric ignition (a clicking noise when you turn on a burner) you may need to re-light the pilots for the burners. Lift the covers off the burners to re-light the pilots.

If you have succeeded in turning off the oven, you need a new knob -- you can get one at an appliance parts store or maybe a hardware store. If the oven control did not turn off normally, I would leave the oven/stove turned off: the control itself will need to be replaced by a qualified repair person.

Both oven knobs have come off and although don't appear to be broken we can't seem to fix them back on properly

First try a layer of silver paper around spindle.

If not satisfactory then try a "No nails" type of clue.

Bottom oven element stays hot will not cut off

In order for the element to stay on, the oven switch must be broken. No details are provided, but if your oven is like most, you have an Oven Selector knob for ~bake, broil, clean and another knob for Temperature selection.

Look at your Oven Selector knob closely to make sure it is not slipping on the shaft. It may be as simple as the knob being broken, and even though you are turning it to the Off position, the switch may still be on. If the knob is indeed turning the switch shaft, then it is most likely the switch stuck in the own position. Thanks for using FixYa.

How do I remove the fan from an electrolux EGC652 oven

Hello,
The model no. does not seem correct.but it seems as if the hole in the fan blade which is normally D shaped has worn round. The thread on the shaft is Left handed and you will need to undo by turning clockwise. If you can get a vice grips at the back of the blade to hold the shaft then try again,or you will need to get into the back casing and try jamming the shaft at the motor housing you may need some help. Then if that works you will need to undo the 3 bolts holding the Motor body to the rear casing. The new fan would normally come with new bolts, blade and nut.To tighten fan blade nut use a 10mm socket hold the fan blade and tighten anticlockwise.Hope this is helpful.

Good luck.

Is the knob that turn the light on repairable? The oven light is on but would not turn off. The knob just keeps turning...

HI,and a merry Xmas.
Yes it is repairable, it is going to be one of two things.

1--the control knob is cracked or broken causing it to twist round without turning the control.
2--the spindle on the control is broken or loose inside the switch.
Pull the knob off, and see if yopu can turn the switch on and off with a pair of grips or pliers.
This way it will enable you tell if it is just the knob or the switch that is faulty.
Good luck.

Please leave feedback for my suggested solution.
