My BDP S550 was working playing most blurays. The other day I put the original release avatar bluray in and it came up as disc unknown, which had worked before. Now no blurays work in my bluray player including ones I watched in the last couple weeks. My firmware is up to date. I am puzzled, finding nothing on this one. Maybe I could reset my bluray to factory settings and firmware and reupdate?

Will your machine play standard movie DVD discs? if it does then the laser pickup assembly is the problem. The blue ray discs require a higher precision tracking to offer better resolution.

After making sure that you have either connected the player to your TV via HDMI or component video, select the associated input on the TV. If you still have no picture, press the video button on the BDP-S300 remote until you get a picture.

A blu-ray player cleaner will not solve this problem.

I have Avatar Blu-ray movie and it plays on my BDP-BX2 11.4.006 version. Take it back and get it exchanged. Try new one. May have to go to another store since the same shipments (bulk) that are at your store are ALL the same. I have done this 4 times with 4 different movies and 2 of them worked. I'm getting the .008 update but, I'm starting to think the Blu-ray disc are the problem since I have one that is made in Mexico??? I don't think they are all being made correctly. Too Cheap!

Go into the player's menu and disable BD-Live. Clear the memory if you can find it. I don't have a manual to guide you through so you'll have to look around.

latest 2,3 on my bluray,,bdp 1400, samsung,, still showing menus at chapters on several discs,,inc avatar..this will stop me buying new discs, till they sort out upgrades,,may be a 6 months wait,, but worthit to avoid this ****,hassle and hair loss.

I'm Sorry, you cant use an Infrared signal Remote for a blue signal Sony BDP- whatever BluRay Player.
Only a BDP-B101A - B105A gives a blue light signal for S300-S550 to get past the opening menu.
It will not sink

I'm having the same problem. I have the Sharp HP22. I'll keep checking back to see if a solution is posted.

you need to take it to a repairer its way beyond you now.you need to replace the HDMI and lan port. i hope this helps
