TV turns its self on and off

I have an RCE 20F424T 20" I purchased about a year ago. It has worked relatively well -- a few problems with sound and picture quality. But the most recent problem is that the TV turns itself on and off and when I use the remote to get to the guide the pointer is running and up and down the guide. It turns itself on then turns back off and blinks on and off for long minutes at a time. I want to hold onto this TV until I can afford an HD TV then I'll replace it. Until then I need this one ... I hope you can help.

Had TV 8 months then it began turning on-and-off on it's own.

I have this problem as well. It started by just randomly changing channels and now sometimes will not even turn off. None of the buttons on the TV work, you have to use the remote, but when you turn on the TV it only goes through settings in the menu.

My TV is 8 months old and it is doing the exact same thing. It turns on and off all by itself. The volume goes up on it's own. My 7 year old son uses this TV for his video games and it really freaks him out.

I purchased my tv about 9 months ago and it is used as a bedroom tv. Therefore, the tv doesn't get used often at ALL maybe 3 to 4 hrs every week or so. So I was in my living room reading and I hear the tv come on in my bedroom. I thought I was going crazy!!! The only thing is that I was not. My parents TV is an RCA and its lasted over 20 years... every since I can remember. It is sad to see such a decline in the quality of their products. A tv should last much more than a mere 9 months especially with the lack of times I even use the dang TV!!!!!! I will NEVER buy another product from RCA AGAIN... this is ridiculous.. Check out consumeraffairs.com, go to electronics, and type in 20F424T and you will be amazed at how many people have complained about RCA products, including this specific TV... IT is absolutely SAD that a company can get away with this... I will be reporting this to the BBB and I urge you all to do the same...

I have the same problem with the on/off thing. The TV is only 6 months old and is in my 8 year old daughters room. She cant watch TV in her room anymore and I have to keep it un-plugged. RCA needs to address this problem and find a solution.

Greetings. I had the same problem with my 29" RCA, and it was easy to repair. I opened the back cover of my tv and just disconected the two wires cable that connect with the upper controler (volume, chanels, etc); and now it is working OK; but I must operate the tv only with the remote controler.

I hope this could help you.

German.

My 20" rca 20f424t cuts

That sucks about your tv. Mine just turned 3 years old. Never had a problem with it. But you seriously can't expect wal-mart to take back and exchange a 3 year old tv. Come on. That would be stupid for walmart to do. Even RCA prolly dosent do more than a 1 year warranty. Unless you purchased the warranty from walmart, it will be cheaper to just get a 19 inch lcd tv now. Cheapest I see them on sale for is only $99.99

I purchased a 27'',Insignia tv about a yr 1/2 ago, it has been working fine till about 3 days ago, when it decides to shut down by it self. however, when i unplug the tv cord and replug, it comes back on....

To start unplugg it for a few hours, I know it sounds dumb but it will reset the set. If that does work get the TV on a surge protector. It would surprise me if this needs service beyond that, this brand is very service prone

The picture and sound stopped a few days ago

Try leaving the TV unplugged for 30 minutes so the TV can reset itself.
If that doesn't work, most likely the TV has a power supply related problem.
I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet.
If by chance the TV is still under warranty, go that route.
If not under warranty and If you have some electronic experience, you can purchase a Service Manual over the internet and diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists. Usually, cost under $20.

I hope I shed some light on the subject for you.

No sound on my 32'' Insignia LCD HDTV

you might try checking the sap (secondary audio programming) option in your tv if it has one make sure it is turned off. if it is off or does not have that option you will most likely have to take it to a repair shop. i would not try to fix it my self as you will do more harm than good.

RCA 32V550T 32" TV Possessed

I am having the same problem with my RCA 32V550T. This has been the worst purchase I have ever made - it was an expensive TV at the time that I got it and it only worked for a few months. It may or may not come on. It may or may not have sound. It rarely works but If per chance it does come on it will work maybe from 15 mins to 2 hrs. depending on it's mood - yes I think it is possessed. It turns on and off at will. I keep it unplugged most of the time because I worry it may be a fire hazard. I have had it repaired but the problem persists. It's a useless but expensive heap of junk taking up space in my living room. I had a great RCA VCR that I bought many years ago but contemporary RCA products are not the quality they used to be - be smart and stay away from them.
