DEAR FRIEND, YOU WILL HAVE TO CHANGE THE POWER OF YOUR GAME.

  • buccaneer73 Jun 11, 2011

Hi, I had the same problem with countless Dreamcast consols. After some extensive reasearch I finally found that the problem is a design fault. Aparrently it is down to the power connection on the consol. The two prongs that the power lead plugs into. They are nickle plated to regulate the power flow int the consol. But because it is only nikle plating, it wares off over time causing to much current to flow into the consol cuasing an inbuilt fail safe reset in the system to kick in to stop the system from burning out. The only solution that I can think of is to get the two prongs re-plated with nickle. Quite how much this would cost I dont know. And how long would the plating last?? A damn shame as the Dreamcast was and is a brilliant consol.

I was given a sega dreamcast everything works but when it says install disc i put the disc on the wheel close the door and the cd wont stay on the wheel

If I recall the Sega Dreamcast wheel is a clasp type wheel. You need to push the disk down onto the wheel and you will hear it secure itself onto the wheel. Then close the wheel and you should be good to go. Don't just place it on the wheel... push it down until you here that little clicking sound and it should stay on the wheel.

My friend has a sega dreamcast which turns on, shows the menu, but then turns off after only 10 seconds. I've seen reports of a dreamcast turning off during game play, but they all say it's 15-30...

Most likely it is over heating due to a fan that stop spinning or dust in the vents. Make sure the fan is still working and clean it out with compressed air.
Here is a great site all about repairing it - http://www.ifixit.com/Device/Sega_Dreamcast

I'm having troubles with my "Dreamcast" keyboard.

It sounds to me like the keyboard itself is busted. This happens when PC keyboards start breaking down as well. The Dreamcast is pretty old so I'm guessing the peripheral is too. It may be that your keyboard is just no longer functioning.I've never known a true solution to fixing a keyboard when it starts doing this. Perhaps search ebay for a replacement?

Dreamcast wont power on

sounds like a fuse gone

there's one on the plug? (In uk there is)
There is a glass fuse inside the machine
So take it apart and look at it (close to the where the power goes into the machine
If there is no wire in the glass take it out and get a replacement at an electric shop.
DO NOT JUST PUT ANY OLD BIT OF WIRE IN THERE!

Sega Dreamcast console problem

First off, NEVER store a game console on top of a subwoofer. It is like a giant magnet, and electronic devices do not handle magnetics. I don't think i've ever heard of a VGA box, Sega brand or not, killing a console. Millions use aftermarket AV cables and adaptors on all consoles without problem. I think it likely died from being on top of the sub. Relocate it and you should be fine. Running it for a few hours isnt likely either unless you had the vents entirely blocked.
To the guest who's drive isnt spinning, I would say your drive motor has burnt out. This doesn't indicate a defect in Dreamcasts, per se, it just means bad luck or excessive dust which killed it. Either buy a different Dreamcast or see if you can find a drive replacement.
Hope this helps.

Dreamcast Loading problem

you can get disks relayered at game stores.
there was a long period where this happened to me.
some games worked for a while, some didnt.
its the dreamcast.
you might wanna get anew power cable or just clear out the dust because that is the main problem with the dreamcast.
try playing with the console upside down
it sounds crazy but it worked for me.

My dreamcast randomly resets itself!

Its been a while since i've owned a dreamcast. My suggestion wouild be to make sure the parts on the inside are clean.Game consoles are known to collect a lot of dust over a long period of time.I would wipe it down with acohol, since it drys fast and leaves no residue.Your reset button might not be getting a connection.
