Refrig - both freezer and frig are not cold. Frig is running but no cold air - any idea of issue or possible repair?

Get a new defrost timer installed

you have a few possibilities 1. a defrost problem restricting air flow from freezer to ref. 2. a bad freezer fan motor 3. a damper issue not opening to allow air to flow from freezer to frig. most all refrigerators generate the cooling from the freezer to the frig via the freezer fan motor

If the freezer is staying cold it sounds like a defrost system problem. A bad timer, heater or thermostat can cause frost to build up on the coils and block air flow to the refrig side. Check out ACMEHowTo.com for troubleshooting the defroster problem.
There is a small duct between the freezer and refrigerator side if this is blocked the frig side won't cool.

You have your own answer there - You have overfrosting and icing up behind the freezer, this will affect proper cooling - also if you have seperate freezer and refrigerator controls, it's possible the damper is not opening properly to let the cool air in. But in your case it sounds like a defrost problem. You will need to have a service person inspect your control board and defrost timer components - sometimes it's as simple as a board replacement due to a burnt resistor these things are the most common causes.

See if the fan in side the frig is working It mite be on the freezer side If the fan is not working it will not blow the cold air in to the frig side

Make sure both condenser and evaporator fans are running. Is it possible that you might have something blocking the air flow from the freezer to the fridge?! Can you hear the fan running up on top?

All cooling takes place in the freezer. The refrig/fresh food side is a parasite, depending on cold air circulation from the freezer side. The fan in the freezer provides that circulation, and usually the freezer control setting determines how much air is moved into the refrig side.
If the fan is up to speed and the both controls are set in a middle position, the refrig side should be fine. if the problem continues, replace evaporator fan motor or clear the blockage preventing circulation (usually frost build-up from a defective defrost system part or blocked defrost drain).

the frig is cold by the air for the freezer so if it all ice insinde no air can pass to the frig 1 turn off you frig ,, yes it not fun but you will reset the frig ( more that 3 hour )
meanwile , take out the ice of you freezer ,lower you temperature in the freezer and restart
if it do that a other time , it easy it you temperature detecter it is broken .. some you need to change it

There is one compressor, condenser and evaporator in all refrigerators. The part that makes the cold inside the unit is the evaporator. It's in the freezer, behind a barrier on the back wall. It's a "coil" with many small fins. There is a fan that blows air over the evaporator which makes the air cold. This air comes from the freezer and stays in the freezer. The cold food section (the refrigerator) has a control that opens a hole for air to pass from the freezer to the fridge. This being said...you can rule out the "temperature control" for the fridge.

The sound you hear could be the compressor relay, the evaporator fan or maybe something else. It could be bad, it could be not too bad. (Like a fan blade a bit unbalanced with dust)

OK,,, back to the evaporator. There is a little heater next to the coil that turns on every 8 hours or so to defrost the coil. That's called the "defrost cycle". Makes sense, no? If the defrost timer (common problem) or defrost control board (common problem) go bad, your evaporator coil freezes up, and that's not good for anything in your refrigerator. But it can often keep the freezer section cold. You can easily disassemble the evaporator cover in the back of the freezer and take a look. If it looks like a block of ice, you probably have a defrost issue. An even, thin coat of frost is OK, but lots of ice is a no no.
