Convergence Have a Sony KP-48S70, and the convergence is off and will not autofocus/autoalign. Appears as a red "ghost" image approximately 2.5" off to the right horizontally. I have tried to enter service mode with remote, but I do not have the original remote, I have a GE universal learning remote. Can this be adjusted manually, and do I need the original remote??
You need a remote that can produce the "DISPLAY" button on the Sony remote in order to get in service mode....(you could also carefully move the centering rings on the red CRT to line it up with the green CRT)

Thats a common problem caused by failed convergence ICs and pico fuses. Your model uses the Sony type 1 convergence repair kit which is available from www.tvrepairworld.com which contains the parts and the CD with detailed repair instructions.
You have convergence circuit failure. Convergence IC's have to be replaced and probably some PICO fuses that soldered on the same board. This repair require good soldering skills.
Shop cost u about $300.Ur convergence is dead,U know how to solders.?Buy a convergence kit to repair.Tries websites. Tv repair World.com,Tv repair Kits.
This sounds like convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually charge between $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks! See link for more detail http://www.ehow.com/how_4575598_yourself-projection-tv-repair-convergence.html Note:The convergence/defletion/power board (the one the IC's are on) of this model is on the left hand side (when facing the back of set) also check for blown pico fuses when replacing the convergence IC's The best way to replace the IC's resistors and possibly fuses is to remove the entire board.
do these appear around the images on the screen? look like a horizontal ghost around the image. if so you have lost horiz.convergence on the red. you might try a auto convergence setup in the menu on most rear proj. tv's if this dosent work then you need to try and find a shop.
