I have purchased 2 x samsung chip 1 GB ddr-400 PC3200 184 pin chips to up grade my ram on my hp pavallion t680a. I installed these and my system seemed to reconigise the fact that the ram had been increased to 2 GB - but I had a number of problems where my system closed down (giving a blue warning screen with various codes each time). I also ran a PC Doctor Diagnostic and an error came up "memory advanced patern test = me516-5". It appears that the Samsung chips are the correct type - but do not seem to be compatatable. Is there some sort of BIOS patch I need to install for the ram upgrade to work or are the Samsung Chips not compatatable with the HP machine? THANKS!!!!!

Hello. Looks like your PC requires specific (somtimes known as proprietary) RAM. Go ahead and update your BIOS from HP's Site. Probably won't do you much good. Found this on a website: "Your HP Memory Pavilion t680a only supports modules made with a specific type of chip build. If you come across a website and find what seems to be the exact same memory for a lower price, it is likely that the cheaper memory will not work in your system. By ordering under your model from Upgrade Computer Memory, your selected memory modules are Guaranteed To Work or your money back!"

Chip up grade options!

That
is a socket 754 motherboard. It will support AMD Athlon processors up to Athlon64 3400+. It is a bit long in the tooth by today's standards, and only uses DDR memory, not DDR2. You may get more of a bang for your buck by buying a "barebones" system, which can consist of a motherboard with processor and memory, depending on how much you want in the barebones package.

Typically you use the case, power supply you already have with the new motherboard and processor and ram (memory).

At any rate, if you only want to upgrade your processor, keep in mind that your board only supports up to the Athlon64 3400+. It will support up to DDR 400 ram. You would probably benefit more by buying 2 sticks of 400 DDR ram at 2 gigs each, if you don't have much ram now. If your processor is close to the 3400+, then another processor in that board isn't going to change things much.

Good luck, and write back if you'd like more help.

RAM is installed, but lap top does not read it

The 6735s requires DDR2 SODIMM chips clocked at 800 MHz and they must be installed two at a time (so a 2 Gb chip won't work - you need 2 1 Gb chips. Installing 2 + 1 Gbs will give you 2 Gbs only, (1+1), that is if the PC even boots at all; and so on).

Also, not all operative systems will read the full amount of RAM installed.

Best and easiest thing to do is go to www.crucial.com and run a scan of your computer. It will tell you what you have, how much it will hold, and what kind of modules.

Ram card

Hi giovanni2,
Sorry but you're board does not support DDR2 memory.
Only 2 x 184-pin DIMM sockets support two 2.5V DDR SDRAMs (DDR400/333/266). There are two PC Chips M871G.
One is M871G (V1.5) & the other is M871G (V3.1). Neither support DDR2 memory. DDR2 memory used DIMM slots with 240-pin. The memory slots on you're board uses 184-pin. The board will not function with 240-pin memory.
