My Toastmaster TBR2 bread machine does not knead when started. It makes a tick-tock noise and the timer counts down but no mixing. The bread pan is positioned correctly. Why?

some bread machines warm the ingredients before any mixing starts. If your breamachine doesn't start mixing within 1/2 hour then you DO have a problem. Give it a half hour before you assume it is broken.

In cold weather many bread machines have to warm up for 15-20 minutes before they start. The clicking you hear is the heating element warming up.

some machines warm-up for about 15 minutes before they start kneading especially on whole wheat settings. Did your machine ever start kneading?

Hi, If this is the third time using it, it could be defective. Return it for service. If not under warranty, try a few things. 1) Make sure the pan is inserted in the machine correctly. 2) Make sure that the paddle is not sticking, or the sealed bearing on the bottom of the bread pan is not broken or frozen. (Take pan out and see if you can turn the paddle freely by hand). Or finally, the belt may be loose and slipping, especially when it takes more power to knead the dough the second time. That is a sealed bearing and can't be lubricated. Eventually that sealed bearing gets worn out and then breaks. The bread pan will then need to be replaced...Sorry Hank
