Just check the belt for cracks running across the belt or pieces of the rubber missing or the belt is fraying, if any of these problems are visible replace the belt.
I would change mine around the 60,000klm's unless the belt showed signs of deterioration.
hope this helps

Theres no mileage to change just to check it, the way to check the belt is to look at the inside of the belt and you will see grooves in which the belt rides, if you see cracks in the belt then its time tom replace. the belt should be looked at every oil change it thats no time to check. hope this is helpful.

What mileage do you replace serpentine or time chain belts.

Your replace the serpentine belt when it is worn, cracked, or appears to need replacing. It should easily last 100,000 miles. The 2002 Taurus has a timing chain and not a belt which will last the life of the engine.

Spun bearing on the crank is the worst case. But first check the flex plate to torque converter bolts and make sure they are not backing out. Also drop the starter and make sure you can't pull the gear out by hand. It may be stuck out on the flywheel.

If you have a book picture your are screwed. You do have a tensioner but it is between air con and powersteering pullys. In front from under you can put 15mm wrenchopend with a nother for leverage pull center bolt down to release tension. simple.
