I have the Philips TV model 27PS55S121. Can you tell me if this model is "digital TV ready" or if it will require a converting box to watch tv after Feb 2009 in the USA? Thanks

Unless you are using a cable tv provider to receive your local channels you will definitely need a converter. Depending on the cable provider will determine if you will need one at that time.
Your Hitachi 51UWX20B is an HDTV-Ready TV. No Digital Tuner. HDTV-Ready means that your TV set is capable of displaying analog and high-definition digital pictures, but without a digital tuner, it cannot receive the digital signal. An HDTV-Ready requires an external high-definition TV receiver (digital tuner) in order to receive HDTV signals. These external receivers can be called an HDTV Tuner, set-top-box, decoder or DTV Converter Box . So you will be required to purchase a converter box to receive over the air programming from an external antenna.
This is pretty common. Usually it's because of bad solder connections at a part called the vertical output integrated circuit. Resoldering the bad connections is often all it takes to fix the trouble. While it's a simple repair, unless you have experience doing electronic soldering you should have this done by a professional. It's possible to more damage. Take the set to a shop for an estimate (won't cost as much as a new TV).
depends if you have a cable service. Cable companies will still broadcast in analog because they are a closed system same with sat. only other way to tell if you have a digital tuner is by one a cable/satalite card or when doing the tv programing it asks digital?
Hi Dru,
Good news, your 42 inch Phillips has a built in digital tuner, all you need is an antenna.
Please post the model of your other Tv and I will check on the tuner type.
I have provided a link to a site that has good info on antenna types and the channels you will be able to recieve.
