I have the Samsung HLN5065W DLP television, and if I press the power button the TV will act like it is going to power on but won't. The lamp light will blink but I never get a picture. It seems like it tries to power on, then will shut down and try again. After a few times the timer, lamp and temp will all blink.

Hi,
It seems tv needs lamp replacement, please check lamp in tv and if lamp has not been replaced in last 2-3 years or lamp is broken, replace it to solve tv problem.
Thanks.

That's what I was thinking, but yesterday I pulled the lamp out to get the lamp code. Then put it back in and turned it on just for fun really, and it turned on without a hitch. But after I turned it off and tried to turn it on again it would try to kick on then I would just get the three blinking lights.

When did you replaced lamp last time in tv?

  • Anonymous Jan 24, 2011

I have never replaced the lamp in that TV. I was just wondering if the lamp was burnt out I wouldn't think it would turn on. So now I'm thinking it has to be something else right?

Thats correct, in case of burnt out/ dead/ broken lamp, tv wont turn On but if lamp has been reached to end of its working hours life (weak lamp) then tv will also refuse to power up though lamp apparently looks good/ not broken.

Hope this helps:

Resetting the counter Once you have installed your OEM replacement lamp, resetting the counter is a very simple procedure:
• Begin with the TV powered off.
• Point your remote towards your TV.
• Press:
• Menu + 1 + 8 + 2 + Power.
• Your TV set should now say "Loading Factory".
• Browse down to "Option" then press Enter (or the right cursor button).
To exit the service menu, hit press the EXIT button or just turn off your TV (remember not to turn on your TV immediately afterward!).
NOTE: The Mute+1+8+2 buttons needs to be pressed down consecutively and fairly quickly. If your TV does not enter the service menu after using this combination, you can substitute MENU instead of MUTE. This seems to work for some sets. Also, the right cursor arrow also acts as the ENTER button, so try it if you're having difficulty with the ENTER button.

Sounds like the old lamp blew and took out the ballast. I believe that you need a new ballast for your unit. The other possiblity would be a problem in the low voltage power supply but if the indicator lights are blinking the most likely problem is the ballast.

I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4977572-when_change_ballast_in_dlp_tv which explains the problem, how to repair it and where to get the parts. If you need more help let me know.

Thanks for using FixYa and the generous rating.

Samsung HLN5065W Lamp won't stay on.

Do you get any flashing lights?  Such as Lamp or Temp?  A common problem with these is the light not coming on.  Sounds like a temperature issue.  When you turn the TV on when it is cool, pull it forward and check the rear on the left to see if you can see the fan turning where the lamp is.
The light system is pretty straight forward:  Power Board -> Ballast -> Lamp.  It is controlled by the DLP Board, though.  Since it is powering up, it sounds like the Power Board and Ballast are okay.  The ballast is used to kick start the lamp on (similar to flourescent lights) but not during normal operation.

Replaced lamp still not working

Power issues (Tv True True (``````````` (``````````` 0 95250 95250 clip_image002.gif not turning on) were typically due to faulty ballast. While the TV reports a bad lamp it is the ballast itself causing the issue. Samsung True True (``````````` (``````````` 0 95250 95250 clip_image002.gif is well aware and will replace both the ballast and the lamp (since the lamp can be prematurely aged but the bad ballast). After replacment most people stop having issues.
