The only way a motor for these units can run backwards is if the internal lead connections of the winding are reversed. On some rare occasions I have seen a failed start cap cause a motor to start in reverse but turning it off and on would fix that. If your start cap checks out OK and the motor is truly running 'backwards' you will need to replace it.

If on the other hand the flow is not going the correct way look into the valves and filter(s) for issues.

Reverse direction of electric motor

If your motor runs backwards, you wired the motor backwards. Change your wires around and it will run the correct way.

Have a hayward 1.5hp motor. plastic impeller broke off and is not spinning, how do i replace.

YOU WILL NEED A NEW IMPELLER SPX3010C SUPER HAS 4 BOLTS OR A SPX261OC SUPER 2 HAS 6 BOLTS. JUST TAKE THESE BOLTS OUT AND THE IMPELLER SCREWS OFF TO THE LEFT, CLEAN UP THE TREADS. USE A NEW 201 SHAFT SEAL. AND ON THE MOTOR PICTURED THE SHAFT CAN BE HELD AT THE BACK OF THE MOTOR TO SCREW ON THE NEW IMPELLER.. PUT IT ALL BACK TOGETHER ,PRIME THE PUMP WITH ABOUT 4 GALLONS OF WATER. RUN IT AND WATCH FOR LEAKS .. NO LEAKS ? YOU GOOD TO GO ! ..

I replaced the motor on my super 2 pump with a new shaft seal. Put it all back together including electrical and now it's leaking from the bottom. I retightened the screws to make sure they weren't loose...

Most likely leaking from either the shaft seal, or the valute seal (big seal plate o-ring). When you replaced the motor you should have also replaced the shaft seal. If not go back and do that whether it's leaking or not. If you get your head down and look at the bottom of the pump while it's running you should be able to see the water coming from the joint between the seal plate, and the seal plate housing, or just behind that from the bottom of the motor probably from the vent holes in the motor housing. If it's coming from the motor then the shaft seal is leaking, and the water is traveling along the shaft and out the bottom of the motor. This will eventually get into the motor and seize up the bearings. If it's coming from the valute seal, then you need to either replace or re-seat the seal. As a general rule you should always replace the shaft seal, and diffuser and seal plate o-rings when you replace the motor or split the seal. I'm not as familiar with the 2 speed hayward super 2, but the standard super 2's have a small ribbon seal, often called a rubber band. They are infamous for going bad especially after pulling the pump apart.

My pump is 3 years old. I replaced the shaft seal assembly and now the motor is making a strange sound (much quieter than normal) and shutting off every minute or so. There is no pressure on the filter and...

Sounds like the motor is not turning. Check your impeller and motor to see if it spins freely by hand.

If not then you either have something stuck in the pump or the bearings are bad. If it is freely spinning, check your start capacitor

I have a clicking noise coming from the new Hayward super pump.

Is the motor running? It will make an audible 'click' when it turns on and another as it slows to a stop once shut off. If it keeps doing it during the run time, you are likely not feeding it the correct voltage. Otherwise, one click at the start and end is normal.

If the motor is set for the correct voltage and the line voltage is ok, the motor is starting to fail and will need service at a local electric motor repair shop.

Leak between seal plate and pump/strainer housing

The pump seal is leaking and needs replacing and requires removing four 3/8 bolts (9/16) wrench and removing the motor then the diffuser to get to the impeller and seal . A 7/16 wrench holds the rear motor shaft behind the springs and impeller spins off to reveal the seal which has two parts one on the impeller with a spring and one in the seal plate is white ceramic/ porcelan whatever they use. Part number is an SPX1600KA on super pumps and 1500KA wassome above grounds. When replacing do not touch the mating white and black surfaces with your fingers.
