I have the same problem, my notebook won't boot up unless the original chip is installed. It is not the memory chip because the both work in other notebooks.

Sounds like the memory chip is either the wrong frequency or it's bad. The frequency or type of memory for your machine is PC4200 or 533mhz, make sure the new chip is a PC4200 chip. If it is, then the chip may be bad. They are very static sensitive, and I've had a few bad chips straight out of the box. I've also ran into a couple of chips that were marked wrong and not the frequency on the label. This is definitely an issue with the memory chip and not your machine.

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301 that has 512mb of DDR memory currently. I have a stick of 128 that I was going to throw in there to boost performance but when I opened the compartment the there was...

There are 2 types of memory, one for laptops and one for pc.

Your additional stick seems to be for pc from what your saying.

Additional thoughts:
I'm sure you can buy sticks for laptops at walmart or whereever you bought ur laptop. Just make sure it is the same speed type. Example: yours is 512mb ddr PC 5200, you will need to find PC5200, the 512mb and up you shouldnt have to worry about. So do your research before you upgrade or you will burn your laptop.

Adding memory to a a75-s211

How much memory did it have before you removed the 256Mb RAM?
If it had 756Mb RAM then the memory in the laptop has 512 Mb plus 256 Mb RAM modules, the 256Mb in the slot you can see and possibly 512Mb in a slot under the keyboard or soldered on the motherboard.
Therefore by removing the 256Mb and replacing with 1Gb memory module will give you a total of 1.5Gb

Not enough memory

  • your Toshiba Satellite M35X-S311 has the following memory configuration
  • Configured with 512MB
  • The maximum memory you can have is 2048MB (Max),
  • 2 memory slots using 1024MB PC2700 DDR333 SDRAM 2.5V SODIMM Memory modules (Both slots may be occupied). Go to a store and request for this memory specification and you will have 2GB of memory for all the programs you have listed here. Good Luck!

Toshiba laptop problem

The right memory for your laptop is

256MB Memory (PC2-4200) KTT533D2/256, PA3389U-2M25 KTOS534

512MB Memory (PC2-4200) KTT533D2/512, PA3412U-1M51, PA3412U-2M51 KTOS535

1GB Memory (PC2-4200) KTT533D2/1G, PA3411U-2M1G KTOS536

Using the wrong memory can caused motherboard failure.

Try reinserting the old one memory module.
Be sure that the memory is placed in the right way

Toshiba satellite a100,wa-1 memory upgrade

Hi,

Take out all the memory cards and wipe the gold part of the memory modules.

Then insert the two 512 modules & check the memory.

If it shows the correct readings, then the two modules are detected.

Then insert the 1 gb & other one 512 module.

If it shows the correct readings, then the two modules are detected.

Then use the other one gb with the same 512 & check if it shows the correct readings.

Then the two 2 gb modules are fine.

Now insert the two 1 gb modules & check now.

There are ECC type & non-ECC type memory modules are available, chck which one your computer supports & which type you have.

If it shows the correct readings, then the two modules are detected and fine.

Then you can also swap the slot and check if any memory module is not detectd correctly.

Some have four slots & i dont know how many slots your laptop have.

Good Luck.
