Refrigerator warm, freezer cold

I've got a Kenmoore refrigerator (bottom freezer), 5 yrs old. 2 months ago fridge went warm, but freezer stayed cold. defrosted coils in back of freezer which temporarily solved problem. now every 10 days I have to defrost again. any ideas??

I had one suggestion to turn to whole unit upside down for 30 minutes to clear air in the system. does that sound reasonable?

I think you nailed it!! Thank you!! one click of the defrost timer and the fridge is cooling and appears to be defrosting fine. I'll keep an eye on it over the next 2 weeks. Your solution was much more believable than the previous one I received. thanks again!!

    Kenmore 69872, 69877, 79872,79877 Bottom Freezer

Refrigerator stopped cooling, bottom freezer works fine, tried to unthaw ice around coil in back where it goes into frige at about the height of the freezer.

Followed directions I read from other bottom freezer/no frig cooling problems/solutions. If it doesn't work, I'm going to purchase new frig with top freezer and junk this one.

Any other ideas for a fix, or is this frig spent?

I have the trio bottom freezer and my freezer is working fine and the fridge is 100+ degrees. I saw about setting the defrost but how do you do that? It has been very warm and they will charge me and come out in 4 days unless I can figure out how to reset the defrost timer as was noted in the other persons problem just like mine. And are they going to recall them I had another fridge I paid 300.00 for never had a problem this 1 is just 3 yrs. old.

fan in fridge working and sound like pump at back working. I tried to get to fridge coils at base of freezer as previously suggested but all sealed in moulded plastic ?
i am hoping a complete defrost at the weekend will solve??

Totally Unreasonable if you don't mind me saying so. The person who told you that story was thinking of an absorption unit more than likely.

Your proble is related to the defrost system of your refrigerator. There is a timer that automatically starts the defrost. It energizes the heaters that defrost the cooling coil. After the coil reaches a preset temperature a defrost terminator turns the heater off for the remaining time on the timer cycle. You could have a bad timer (stalled) which would not start the defrost. Locate the timer and turn the clutch head screw clockwise very SLOWLY until you hear one audible click. The defrost should take place and will be indicated by water in the drain pan under the refrigerator. If after 25 minutes it does not restart in the cooling mode turn the screw once again to the second click and replace the timer.

If the refrigerator restarts after 18-22 minutes and defrost does not take place your problem is in the heater circuit. Open heater or thermostat (termination switch)

Bought a brand new LG bottom freezer fridge a couple of months ago. I like the refridgerator part to be cold, so we keep the fridge temp on 6 (1-7 are temp choices. 7 being the coldest). We had the freezer...

If designed as most combination units, one of the two controls influences the temperature directly, the other only determines how much of the generated cold air is allowed to enter the other compartment. The typical arrangement is that setting the freezer temperature determines how often often the compressor runs; the other diverts a portion of the cold air into the refrigerator side.
Using the common thermometer for cold temperatures (~$5 US), adjust the freezer temperature for 0 to -5 degrees F (the often recommended temp.), then the other control for the desired refrigerator temperature, suggested as 35-45 F. This is the most common practice.
If you cannot balance them the way you want, reverse the procedure, setting for refrigerator temp., then freezer.

FREEZER IS TO COLD, REFRIGERATOR TO WARM

if you can; find the vent(s) between the top and, bottom boxes (where the evaporator fan is located: closing these vents makes the freezer colder and, the refrigerator warmer, opening these vents the reverse is true.

Refrigerator will not get cold, but freezer works

Make sure your fan is working ,its located behind the freezers back wall. If it is working the vent from the freezer down to the refrigerator may be blocked (usually with ice). With out a fan you have no circulation but your freezer may look likes its working,it may last 3 days. Also if you can move everything out unplug it turn it off w/ doors open untill all traces of ice are gone this will free up any clogged tubes. Good luck.

Fridge warm, freezer is cold

First off all i type so fast that my spelling is junk! so bear with me. now most tec's will recomend that you defrost the unit. uhh uhhh . the fact of the mater is you have air in the lines they hope that the air due to defrost will settle to the bottom, well we both know that air always goes where! lol to the top. lol. this is crazy but this is somthing they dont want you to know . see when you take the unit in to get repiared they (a corse when you leave) will flipp the unit up side down fore about 30 min to get those air molicles to te top . then quickly flipping it back up plugging it in just to get the compresser to kick in thuss leving the air at the bottom . doing this properly and susksefly will fix the problem. see when this unit was made was upside down. lol. you dident know this right. well every 100 unit is tested . lol they have to flip it up right when it passes the test. so what do they do . flip it back down. lol . before it leaves the back door its flipped back up agin.lol . to make a long story short you have one of those 100 units lol. its ok i just armed you with the key to the lock.
