Sir, after connecting the cable to the PC please turn on your PC and go to device manager by right clicking the computer on the desktop.
There you can find scan option it will scan and install all the drivers.
But if you are using laptop or any PC which don't have LPT port then please by LPT to USB cable form E-bay or amazon.

Do you have drivers?

1. www.hp.com/#support get downloaded drivers
2. Install the drivers downloaded
3. When prompt for printer connection, plug the USB cable and switch on the printer
4. Your Laptop will recognize the printer

Using the LPT port is not the same as using the network port. The LPT port does not utulise an IP address.
Plug in a network cable to network port and the printer wil usually aquire an ip address via DHCP.
I repeat the LPT port is not a network port and cant initialise an ip address

How is the machine connected? try changing the data cable if this doesn't work then shutdown your computer while the machine is on and reboot as if it is connected via LPT port some systems like to have the printer on before the computer.

Try this and I hope it helps if it doesn't then you might have a faulty print formatter board.
