Your dsl should have come with some line filters to put on your regular phones as well as fax machines. Split your incoming phone line with a phone splitter from radio shack plug the dsl into one of the two ports and the filter into the other. On the output of the filter you are allowed to split again to as many devices as you need phones and fax machines alike.

Why does phone need dsl filter

Did the other phone quit working? If you have DSL there could be a splitter installed at you NID? (Network Interface Device) put there by the phone company, it could have gone bad. Do you have other phones in the house, and are they working or not. try another jack? you may just have a bad jack where you are.

I have an at&t 2wire 2701hg-b but i dont have at&t internet i have charter and i am not able to figure out how to get my internet to work with this router please help

att 2 wire is a Adsl Modem (Requires a telephone line jack to get the signals) but charter communication is a cable internet service (not DSL) , Requires a TV cable service for internet .
These two jacks differs and there working differs ..
Means : Att works with the username and password type of authentication but charter requires the MAC address of modem for authentication .
Therefore for a cable internet 2wire 2701hg-b modem cant be used . But yes in case charters has username and password authentication and works with the telephone jack in house then its possible to use the same modem.

WHENEVER THE PHONE RINGS OR SOMEONE IS ON THE PHONE OUR INTERNET STOPS WORKING. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING OVER THE LAST 4 DAYS OR SO

Im assuming you are using DSL. You need to have DSL filters on all phone jacks in your house that have phones plugged into them as well as having a filter where your phone line plugs into the phone jack. Any time the phone rings it will cause interference and cause the DSL to malfunction.

What to do if dsl light is blinking

This likely means that your DSL modem is not trained up with the DSLAM. - Geek talk for your modem is not connected to the phone company's equipment properly.

1.) Remove power from the modem

2.) Remove all devices (including the DSL modem) from all phone jacks in the house.

3.) Add the DSL line back to the wall jack, taking care to plug the wall jack into the correct jack on the DSL line. (Do not use a DSL filter on your modem!)

4.) Power up the modem/

Still not working? Continue...

5.) Try a different phone jack

6.) Try a new phone cable between the wall jack and modem

7.) Call the phone company for further assistance.

Cordless phone has volume problems with DSL

For starters that dsl modem should not be filtered.
You should place the splitter directly into the wall jack and place the filter on the side used for the phone. The side feeding the dsl line should not be filtered.
The filter serves 2 purposes. 1 it reduces data noise interference onto the voice line. 2 it prevents dsl interference from voice such as picking up and hanging up the receiver.

No line or dail tone but dsl is working

try unplaging the dsl modem from the phone jack and plug in a known good phone and see if you have dial tone there if you do you may have a bad filter someplace.if not unplug everything else that is plugged into a phone jack in the house and try again with a known good phone. The dsl will work with a minor short on the line, like a phone off hook.

No dial tone, just buzzing noise - should be 2 line phone, 1 jack

What you need is a dsl filter since you are working off a splitter. You can usually get these for free from your phone company.

Ethernet cords

The cord that plugs into the DSL filter is a phone line and the other end plugs into your DSL modem. Also, every other jack that has a phone or fax or answering machine or caller id box has a DSL filter as well, in between the jack and the device.

No Dial Tone on phones or modem

if you have a dial tone when your computer is not plugged in, then the problem ls with your computer[ a possible short in the computer] the phone cord to the jack, or anything in between such as a dsl modem.if you have dsl, be sure your ethernet cord [ that's the wider plug cord] is in the wider jack in back of the computer. it wont fit in the regular phone jack.if you have dial up, be sure the phone cord is in the regular jack not the ethernet port.[if you have one]

good luck
