Insert the Toshiba Product Recovery CD and turn on the system while holding down the C key. This will allow the system to boot from the CD. Select either a Complete Recovery (this recreates all the partitions and formats each one, this may reboot the system several times depending on the size of the HDD and the number of partitions) or Standard Recovery (this just formats drive C:). This will then restore the operating system as shipped from the factory. A Toshiba Tools and Utilities CD is supplied for reinstallation of drivers and utilities without reinstalling the complete operating system.

My Satellite R15 S829 recovery disk was lost

You can call (800) 457-7777 and get a new set. I see Toshiba has bumped the shipping and handling to $24.95 standard, $29.95 next day. Have your serial number and a credit card handy.

How to recovery the system from recovery partition

Did you know you only get ONE shot at creating a recovery disc? And most of the time it is garbage, just like Vista.

He tried to put XP on it and failed? weird.

A couple things you can do...

1. Get your hands on a Vista disk. If you know anyone that works in IT, you can borrow a Vista disk. Do a complete fresh install. Use your "Product Key" and you will have your own Licensed, perfectly legal version of Vista.

2. Get yourself a copy of XP. Delete all partitions, then create a new one. Don't try to save that Vista recovery partition...it's toast. I recommend XP, but I'm a dinosaur.

If you know anyone that works in IT, you can borrow

HOW TO FACTORY RESET TOSHIBA SATELLITE NOTEBOOK

That model Toshiba does not come with a recovery CD, does not have a restore partition, and does not allow you to creat a recovery disc when working normally, so unfortunatly you have 2 choices.

1. Call Toshiba and try to get them to mail you a recovery disk, if they have any they will likely charge you for the disk + shipping.

2. Reinstall windows manually using a clean install, you can use any OEM windows disk as long as it is the same version as your windows product key on the bottom of the laptop (i.e XP Home/XP PRO/ XP MCE/ or VISTA - all vista disks are basically the same and have all 3 versions on them)

Make sure you have backups of the drivers for your network adapter and other hardware before doing a clean install.

Toshiba Satellite A85 Laptop

You can call Toshiba service center and purchase the recovery software if you know your model number. I did this with an A45 -popped the recovery disk in, started the computer and the computer immediately reads the recovery disk and walks you through the process.
