is this just a typical usb or an external hard disk? if it's just a usb, you dont need to install it.if its an external hd you really need it's software

Could you please provide a little more detail? What is the MAKE and MODEL # of the computer?
When does this happen(during startup, while in Windows etc)?

Does the PC boot into Windows Desktop(Normal mode)?

I would recommend visiting the manufacturers(unknown) website and downloading all driver updates that they have.
