Question about Imation (23780) 320 GB USB 20 Hard Drive
Unfortunately, external hard drives go bad. A 320 is probably a few years old, I replace mine about every 3 years to be sure. I know it sounds funny, but things work till they don't. Just because it was working yesterday does not mean it will work today. It is possible there is a setting in your XP or 7 to keep from seeing the drive, but doubtful it changed on both systems between yesterday and today.

Hello,
First of all make sure that the USB port that you are using to connect it to your PC is a USB 2.0 port, and not USB 1.0.
Also if it came with an external power, connect it to the external power before putting on your PC.
This is because the voltage supplied by USB 1.0 is lower than that of USB 2.0 and therefore might not be enough to power up your USB Drive.
After making sure about this, power up your system, and plug the external drive, then Right-Click on my computer icon, select manage, then go to Disk Management Option.
On the Disk management option Page you should see ALL the drives installed on your system, including the hidden ones, so what you will just do is, try and locate the one representing your external drive, and right click on it. then select "Change Drive letter and Paths", and give the drive any new, unique letter (i.e alphabet) different from the ones already on your system, and click on OK.
This should make your external Drive to be detected automatically.
Hope this helps you out.
Goodluck!

If you got a USB casing for that, it would have come with a USB and power cable. Yes, power too!
Plug the power, and make sure you have a USB 2.0 hi-speed port. Also check "computer management" and check the hard disk works.

SOURCE: I have formatted my transcend
Windows is not configured to "show hidden and system files",
but you can change that option.
Download the software from Transcend's web-site.

Either the USB ports on your computer are not working
(try some other USB device in those ports to disprove this)
or the USB ports are supplying insufficient voltage/amperage to your Imation device,
such that it does not operate.
