Check compressor is taking correct amps, if high amps due to capacitor weak, replace it. And also check for any short circuit in wiring. That is also the reason for breaker tripping.
Finally,
Remove power. Check compressor terminals after removing wiring, When your ohms read something between any terminal and grounding, it's understood that compressor grounded. Replace it.
If windings reading should be : SR should read the total of CS and CR (C=COMMON, S=STARTING,R=RUNNING). If the total is higher or lower, the compressor winding is weak. That time it takes higher amps and breaker get tripped.

Hello
Yes the northeast had temps that went past the limits of modern a/c.
Try cleaning the outside fins and coils.
Spray a product called simple green on the fins while unit is off.Leave on for 5 min.
Then rinse off with a hose.
This should keep your compressor running cooler. Also clean any filters in the inside unit.

It is possible it is the noise of refrigerant balancing when the compressor shuts off. Does the noise ever stop? Have you turned breaker off??

Our floating air system from Friedrich is leaking a lot of water, how do i fix this problem, what should i look for when repairing the unit?

The drain hose could be clogged or the drain pan could be blocked. A service technician can correct this. Give an air con technician a call. This can be done by yourself if you know what you are doing but it is best to leave it up to the professionals

Friedrich QuietMaster SS12H10

It is probably either the Compressor and or the capacitor that has failed. The compressor will hum and pull a lot of amps when it has seized up. Sounds like it is time for a new unit.
