1. remove all the ink cartridges from the printer and then clean the copper contacts with a lint free cloth put it back in and check if that helps.. 2. then unplug the power chord from the back of the printer without turning off the printer and then press and hold the power button for 30 sec. then release the button and then plug in the power chord at the back of the printer and check if that helps.. 3. try changing the ink cartridges as it might be an issue with the ink cartridges... however if you have already done that then most probably its an issue with the printer hardware.. you should call HP and ask for replacement...
Have you tried moving the carriage to see if it really is jammed? Maybe you haven't put the levers down properly on your new cartridges....remove them, see if the carriage slides, then refit them and check the carriage again. You wont visually 'see' a carriage jam,; you have to try moving it. By the way, if it doesn't move, DONT force it to try and overcome the jam try and reason out why it doesn't move. Why are you taking out the ink cartridges?? The message says to open the carriage access door and clear the jam. The printer thinks that paper is stuck in the paper path, see if you can find it. I believe that there is also a rear door on that printer, remove it and look inside.
If the number 10 cartridges are not properly fitted in the print head then this might give you a "jam" signal. My ink cartridges snap easily into position... if out of position an ink cartridge can block carriage movement...it happened to me.
We have several of these in our company and the most common "Carriage Jam" cause is a glob of black ink in the bay on the right side. Once glob is removed, and "Carriage Jam" message appears again, press OK, and it prints fine from then on. Today the black ink glob was flat on top. Watch out for leaky cartridges, as the design of the particular HP device provides a nice catch pan for the tri-color ink cartridge, but not for the black one, so a leaky cartridge, besides being expensive and wasteful, can goop up the bay causing the carriage jam error message to try to get you to take a closer look.
I had an old HP printer and it would say the door was open or the cartridge jam. It turned out the cartridge was too far to the end of its belt cycle. It is weird, but I put a finger space width between the cartridge and the wall of the printer and then it read it correctly. Go figure. It would get off cycle whenever I replaced the ink cartridge.
