Hi

I am afraid you are not going to like my answer to the question relating to Windows XP. This is because Windows XP is not supported (officially) as an Operating System on PowerEdge 1600sc.

Regarding the System BIOS, the only change is to ensure that the system is set to boot from the Optical Drive (CD/DVD) first. You can change/verify this from boot sequence sub menu. If you think you have made unknown changes to the BIOS settings, you may use keyboard shortcut ALT+D to reset individual highlighted field to factory defaults or ALT+E to reset the entire System BIOS to factory defaults. ***Please don't reset BIOS settings unless you know what you are doing***

Now back to the question regarding Windows XP. To proceed, you will need drivers for the Mass Storage Controller. PowerEdge 1600sc can be configured with PERC 3/SC (SCSI RAID) or CERC ATA 100/4 (IDE RAID) or basic SCSI using the onboard LSI U320 SCSI controller. As Windows XP is not officially supported there are no certified drivers.

At your own risk (system stability issues) you may try using Windows Server 2000 or 2003 drivers.

If further help is need let me know.

Mike

SOURCE: DELL Poweredge 2600 Bios FREEZES After Cpu check and before SCSI Drives check HELP!!!!

The BIOS check can freeze for many reasons.

Can you tell me if this is an existing system that was working fine and then had this problem, or is this a new (or new to you) system?

Can you give more information on what is actually showing on the screen?

SOURCE: Internal HDD hard error

By your description it is very likely your hard drive finally failed. You probably looking at total data loss unless you have made recently an backup of it. You will have to get a new HD and then you can install your OS and software.

Another more remote possibility is that when you opened some covers, you accidentally disturbed the HD connection causing this problem.

Just for clarification, was there a lot of dust inside ?

Hope this helps.

Heloo sir i have a problem with my dell 170l when i start it it shows ''strike F1 to continue, F2 to run the setup utility'' when i click f1 it show ''f1 to retry boot,f2 for setup utility'' plz help me...

Hit F2,look in setup to see if the hard drive is recognized and check that the date and time are correct.
Then hit esc key. it will ask if you want to save changes, click yes. It should boot and probably ask you to hit F1 or F2 again., unless there is a problem with the CMOS battery, which may need to be replaced.
If you hit F1 to continue, it will boot, but your time and date will be off.

I have dell 4600 pe serveri want to install Server2003 os i have configured raid 1 on the machine every thing is fine but! on boot process it display message no Boot Device Found Press F1 to continue F2...

The hard drive needs to be set as the first SCSI ID device boot device..
The hard drive needs to have the jumper set to SCSI ID 0, the CD and FDD can be set to SCSI ID 1 and SCSI ID 2. No SCSI devices can have the same SCSI ID number unless it is on a different SCS controller.

I have lost the scsi drive on a dell 1600sc and would like to convert to sata. During boot up the sata controller is reconizing the 2 hard drives but, come but with "no primary drive found"

The best thing to do is reinstalling SCSI, SATA can only manage two disk per channel on this server, and the data transfer time is longer.

If you set SATA, check jumper settings, that is probably reason why you get no primary drive.
Also check bios settings , do hdd auto detect and save in bios if you want to use sata.

If instead you want to go back to SCSI, download the drivers from the link below.

Download page from Dell.

Can not access bois

It hangs there probably becuase one or more of the drives are dead or are almost there. Check and see the lights on the drives are falshing funny or too long or are yellow. If you find one of them that are that way, pull it out and then reboot.

See if that helps.
