The DFX-8500 uses a series of beeps to identify errors and error 6 relates to carriage load measurement. This error causes an auto power off after 12 seconds.
Parts that can effect this error are:
PW Sensor - defective
CR Motor - Defective
CR Encoder sensor - defective
Hope this helps
An E6 is a Fatal Error which is listed as a "Carriage Load Measurement Error" and usually means that the Paper Width Sensor is defective. The sensor that is mounted just to the left of the Printhead Assembly, is the Paper Width Sensor. You might want to remove it, clean it and blow it off with canned air, but its a good chance its going bad and will have to be replaced. For Exploded Diagrams of most Epson Dot-Matrix Printers and or possible parts ordering, by Compass Micro Inc, go to " http://www.compassmicro.com/parts_select.cfm ". You may need to try and locate an actual Service Manual on-line, to buy and download for reference in disassembly, troubleshooting and servicing. I have not checked, but you can normally find Service Manuals and or Service Adjustment Programs/Resets for most Epson Printers, from 2manuals.com, at http://www.2manuals.com/index.php?cPath=2_18 (most Service Manuals can usually be downloaded for around $10 /- ). A second source would be from http://www.sm.copyprofi.net/index.htm [check prices of available Service Manuals]...JUST TO LET YOU KNOW: If you turn the printer off while the LED is alternatly flashing an "E" and the error number, the printer will shut down normally and can be turned back-on immediatly. When a fatal error is being displayed, after 12 seconds the power will automatically shut off and the printer can not be turned back on for 5 minutes [after the printer shuts down automatically]. If you try to turn it back on, prior to the 5 minutes, it may add another 5 minutes to the printers internal clock. So to be sure, wait for over 5 minutes, before turning the Power Switch back on...Good Luck! Denny Conway
