Buttons' contact pads wear out, but sometimes it's dust inside. You can try opening the remote, carefully lifting out the rubber button assembly, and washing it in clean water - the rubber pad only! - no electronics. Also make sure the contact pads on the circuit board are clean (do not wet them, but a light alcohol wipe might help). Then dry it well and reassemble.
If it still doesn't work, the conductive coating the the buttons is worn. I've sometimes gotten a bit more life out of a remote by very gently rubbing the button's contact are with a SOFT lead pencil to deposit a bit more graphite. It helps but is not a definitive fix. There are re-coating kits available online, but at that point it's time to buy a new remote.
If you can't find the original remote, try an aftermarket "universal" remote and program it for your appliance.
i do not know if you have allready done this, but check the carpet under the dash press hard on it and see if it is wet, sometimes the small radiator in the heater ( called the matrix ) leaks due to corrosion, and you cannot see a leak from the outside as it is leaking inside the vehicle, also sometimes you will smell a sweet smell inside the vehicle if there is allot of antifreeze inside but not all the time.
If it was saltwater then it may have been shorted one or more of the circuit boards out. You can try removing the covers and cleaning the exposed circuit boards with a Q-tip soaked in WD-40 (don't spray on the boards) Cleaning any obvious corrosion will sometimes solve the problem. However, if there is corrosion in the flex connectors then boards may have to be replaced.

Has the phone gotten wet? Sounds like your only option is to ask to have it replaced under warranty. However, if they see that there was water damage, they may charge to replace it. There is a water damage indicator sticker under the battery, which turns pink if exposed to moisture.
This is a problem with the garmen, however, sometimes if you can remove the battery, and leave it out for one hour, then replace it while facing north outside, it usually re adjusts itself. also sometimes if you can reset the unit that will also sometimes bring it around. if that doesn't do it, I suggest contacting garman tech support, it may have to be sent in to have the software updated or it can be a defective unit, if it has been dropped., or gotten wet.
