I replaced the thermal fuze in my kenmore gas dryer. Now not only does the dryer not FIRE up, but when I push the button to start the dryer, it will not fire and will shut off shortly after. When I let go of the start button it also shuts off. On the thermal fuze, i placed the blue wire on top the red wire on the bottom. I vacuumed out the dryer and cleaned the lint vent. The back and the lint hose was not reinstalled yet. Kenmore Gas dryer 110.97585400

When you start the dryer does the igniter glow red hot? they crack very easy.If you are sure you put the wires on the fuse the right way,and the igniter is glowing, and you remembered to turn the gas back on,( I've done that ), no kinks in the gas line. The next thing I would look at is the gas vavle, or coils. good luck.

Dryer won't start

This is commonly a thermal switch. The switch is saying to the control that there is too much heat in the lint filter plenum so don't start to avoid a fire. It's located in the plenum somewhere and costs only a few bucks to replace. Call Sears with your model number. Of course, if you have the dryer apart you might as well clean it good and check the drive belts for looseness or cracking. Good Luck. -

Dryer won't start, replaced start button

The push-to-start button is not, in most cases, the culprit. There is a thermal fuse on the blower housing and wired in series with the motor and if it blows, power to the motor is terminated and the motor cannot run. No dryer function works when the motor cannot run.

Disconnect power then access and bypass the thermal fuse on the blower housing. The blower housing is located on the front left bottom of the dryer cabinet if the dryer has the lint filter on the front or at the rear left bottom if the lint filter is located on the top of the cabinet.

Bypass the thermal fuse by disconnecting the wires and connecting them together. Insulate them properly and plug the dryer back in. The thermal fuse is indeed blown and needs to be replaced if the dryer starts. Do not use the dryer with the thermal fuse bypassed due to fire hazards.

Let us know if the problem is not addressed above but indicate the exact model number of the machine for further advice.
