GE Profile 25.5 Cu. Ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with Thru-the-Door Ice and Water - Stainless-Steel Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jan 19, 2011

Have a GE side-by-side profile 25.4. The fridge side is too cold and freezing items in back of top shelf and items in the veggie draw. Settings are 4 for freezer and 2 for fridge and things still are freezing. Any ideas?

There is a air damper that lets the air in frome the freezer side,, it should be in the back top left corner on the fridge side turn the controls to off and listen you should hear a faint sound like a flap closing,, if not it is either stuck wide open, or the little motor has went out,,,( for a temp fix you can tape some of the opening off until you get the parts replaced

Fridge looses temperature

Make sure the two vents from the top of the fridge that run into the freezer are not blocked or obstructed in anyway, that's what the problem was in ours. Also do not allow ice to build up on the vents in the freezer.

Refrigerator keeps getting colder and colder. I reset the temp every time I open it, but it goes back to being too cold. Is registering 24! GE Profile side by side with ice and water through the door.

Hi,

Most times this is a bad cold control, but there are other things to check for. Make sure the condenser fan is working and the coils are not covered with dust. A separated heat exchanger ( small capillary tubing soldered to the large suction line ) can separate from one another and make the fridge run too long. - tape tubing back together. A poor working evaporator fan motor could also make the fridge run too long and freeze - replace the fan motor. An inefficient compressor or refrigeration system could make the fridge run too long and freeze - have a service tech check this out. A misaligned control settings, make sure the air damper and cold control have not been bumped and are out of normal settings. Stuck open air diffusers or air dampers are becoming more and more common for allowing too much air to be blown into the fresh food section and freezing things. On all frost free fridge's the freezer temp air is blown into the fresh food section, if you have "easy" to freeze items ( eggs, veggies in water, etc ) in front of or under where the freezer temp air comes out, they could freeze - store them in a different spot. Doors not closing properly making the fridge run too long is something else to check for the plastic air deflector at the top rear of the refrigerator, As you know, the deflector directs the freezer air toward the front of the frig and the rear of the cold control, which is now functioning properly.
Hoping that this will help to solve the problem...

Does'nt sound like your compressor.sounds like you may have frost build up,and the tubes may be partially blocked.Try defrosting the whole unit.
