One speaker had crackling sound then quit all together, the other has pulsing sound, tv is 2 years old
I have the exact TV with the same concern. I disassembled my set and removed the sound module to verify part numbers. The cheapest one I could find was on eBoob for over $100.00. My solution was to buy an inexpensive sound bar at Radio Shack and install it. Very simple to connect and it sounds fine. I wouldn't suggest putting money into a low quality TV like the Dell, another board may blow out at any time per several techs I talked to.
I tried this and went from no sound to a popping noise that does not adjust with the volume switch. It is either on or off.
Is there anywhere we can a replacement for this???
Never buy anything from DELL EVER AGAIN! Total ****.
I too am having the same problem. TV is only 2 years old and the sound is shot. Attempts to contcat Dell have involved speaking with 2 reps with acents so heavy i just gave up. I have also sent 2 emails, neither of which have been replied to.
Dont think we should just shrug this off, I know I will be paying on this faulty model for another 2 years. Class action suit anyone?
thanks for the reply, but how do i access the audio board? and this stil .doesnt deal with the shoddy workmanship Dell put into our sets, why should i have to take my fairly new set apart for repairs which may end up doing more damage then good. I have an old Panasonic from 1984 that stil lworks in the guest room built when pride of construcion when into a set, 2 1/2 years sadly pales in comparison. Do we just let Dell get away with this shoddy workmanship?
I wouldn't even try to acess the audio board. If you are not quite sure on what you are doing you could do more damage to your set and not just to the audio aspect. I fully agree that we should not have to take our sets apart in an attempt to fix the problem. 2 years is an extremely short time for a tv of such expense to last. And I am sure we all bought with good faith on the Dell name. I for one am pursing legal means to recoup my costs. Good luck in your fight for justice with Dell.

When unit was made they put a layer of glue on both sides of the audio board .The glue turns dark and hard after a couple of years and becomes conductive and corrosive. I tried to take it off but ruined a couple of parts on the board while doing so.I would suggest to anyone who wants to attempt it to first coat the area with acetone or nail polish remover to soften the glue and then use dental picks to remove (carefully)the glue. Then the board should be washed with a good electronic solvent and dried. It might be worth a try!

I have purchased a Dell W3201C LCD TV
and have exactly the same problem.
Sound has been cracking and is now gone.
Who can repair this?
Dell W3201C LCD TV
Sound cuts out and pulses - set only 2 1/2 years old.
I have the same problem. Purchased the Dell W3201C in the Spring of 2006 (about 2 years old) have had virtually no problems until 3 days ago when the speakers began to cut in and out, pop, hiss, and garble the sound after about 15 - 20 minutes from turning the TV on. We left the TV on last night with the remote on MUTE and came back 3 hours later and turned off MUTE and the speakers sounded fine. Only tested it for about a minute though because it was time for bed. I am not at home today to see if this "fix" held. However, I understand from what I have been reading on the internet I am not alone with this issue and find it absurd considering the young age of the TV and what we paid for it!!
I'm having the same problem with my DELL W3201C 32 in. LCD TV. When I turn it on, one speaker pulsates so loud I have to disconnect it. Then the other speaker is so soft that you can bearly hear it. I bought a new set of speakers, but the same problem occurs. I bought my DELL through QVC about 2 to 3 years ago.
yes I too lost my sound, my fix is to take a hammer to it.
dell support is not there. I checked once a while ago and they told me they could fix it for 500, I found this to be BS and didn't fix it, i now am looking at the Vizio
I have a Dell 37" LCD TV with the same problem. Just started out of the
blue about a week ago. Crackles and cuts in and out very loud. To work
around my problem I went into the audio menu and turned the speaker out
setting off and then I connected the TV RCA audio out jacks to my
receiver and am now playing the sound thru
my receiver's speakers. Works fine but I would still like to know what
happened to the Dell and am mad about it only be about 3 years old and
already parts are failing.
We have a DELL W3201C 32" LCD TV and the same identical thing is happening. I appreciate your suggestions on how to fix - it appears that the speakers that came with the DELL TV are defective. Does everyone agree with that? If so, I assume that the speakers can be removed from the TV and then attach new speakers. Has anyone tried this (without going through another component)? Thanks, Rebecca
