ONKYO TX-SR608 I need to have my volumne up over 40 to get any sound and around 55 to listen to my home theatre on 5.1 . Does this sound normal? Also, how can I view the volumne when using Zone 2? I seem to get good volumne from that zone, but don't know what volumne per on the scale of 1-100 I'm at. Am I missing something? Thanks so much in advance. C Fast

Yes it is normal, the 608 is a THX certified receiver, so it goes by THX reference levels.

In theory once you have run the Audyssey auto-setup with the included mic the proper reference level for watching movies will be 82 if the volume number scale is set absolute or 0dB of it is set to THX relative. At this setting the volume should be the same as watching that movie at the theater. I have mine set to power-on at a level of -30dB which corresponds to level 52 on the scale you have it set to. This is a comfortable lowish level, but I turn it up to at least -10dB AKA 72 when watching movies.

How to fix the HDMI board on Onkyo TX-SR608

If you look on the internet HDMI board failure on these Onkyo's seems quite a regular occurence.

Time to scrap the Onkyo and buy something with a better name - like Yamaha, Denon or Marantz.

How to set-up the audio. I have 5 speakers and 1 subwoofer

It's all explained in the manual.

Your subwoofer needs it's own audio power (amp). I'm pretty sure the manuals for the speakers cover their requirements and set-up.

My receiver is not picking up the subwoofer, there is noise coming from the sub when I'm playing with the conection. The speakers are working and im getting prefect sound from them Please help.....

It would be helpful to know if this is a new problem on working equipment or a new problem on NEW equipment. And if you've flipped through the manual without success.

Of course you KNOW the sub must have its own amp, right?

First, you need to determine if the Onkyo or the unnamed sub is at fault.

At the Onkyo, check to make sure you have run the speaker setup starting on Page 40. If that doesn't work...

Disconnect the subwoofer pre-out at the Onkyo and move it to the VCR Out, tune an FM station and be ready for some real loud subwoofer output if your sub has no volume control of its own. If you can hear the sub, it works and it's back to the Onkyo. If not, the unnamed sub

Volumne control

Hi BCDC

Have you checked that the mute function has not been turned on. It provides a -50dB reduction in audio that may be producing you drama.
