HP Compaq D530S Shut Off Problem

Hi, we have a HP Compaq D530S. When we got back from a week's vacation, it started shutting off unexpectedly. Sometimes the computer can be booted up again immediately, and sometimes it needs to cool. It seems as though it is getting too warm and then it powers off. I have not heard big surges of fan activity since we got home, like I did before we left on vacation. I blew out what little dust there was inside, checked the CPU fan connector with a meter (no open circuits between terminals), and see nothing unusual with the capacitors.

Is it probably the fan that needs to be replaced, or the motherboard, or something else?

Thank you!

Is the cpu fan working if so you may have to remove it and clear any dust or fluff that has collected on the heat sink. sometimes you cannot see the fluff etc until fan removed.
If fan not working replace fan

My HP DC 5800 PC, Shut down unexpectedly. It is not happen regulerly. Some times it happen twice a day and some times it happen once a month. My operating system is Vista business.

Most unexpected shut downs like this are caused by over heating. Is the computer in a closed in space? If so try moving it to where it has plenty of room to breath. If this does not help I would suggest trying to replace the current fans to be sure that they are in working order.

D530s will not power up, odd blinking green LED on mobo

Ok, this is acting as if your MB is getting power but doing nothing with it. This very well could be a MB problem where something (unknown without looking at it) is fried. Just for grins, take the cmos battery out and let the pc sit for 1/2 to 1 hr before putting it back. If this does not work, I would contact HP for a replacement MB.
