Pioneer SD-532HD5 53" Rear Projection Television Logo
Posted on Jan 18, 2011

My wife was cleaning around our Pioneer sd-532hd5 tv and she moved the tv to clean behind it. When the did, the color went awry. The sound and video is ok, just the color was affected. We have checked the cable connections and they seem to be fine. What can we check that we may not have thought of.

Now in the front of your tv you will see a weird piece of wood that looks like it doesent belong now its a piece of wood in the front of your tv sicured by a few screws and 2 dowels and inside you will see 2 circut bourds infront of you and a few more behind them , you will also see some connections to the botom of the projectors themselves , now you need to look to your left side and on your left you will see a little black or white casing with what looks to be 6 screws on it , but there not screws there the adjustments for your tv now just fiddle with those 6 screws til you can find your favorite color or setting and close it back up and ENJOY!!!!

I have a Pioneer SD-532HD5 Projection TV in which the picture is clear but dark and the colors appear weak- better color if a cartoon video. I have adjusted the contrast to max with minimal benefit and...

not convergence issue from description and if lens did not help when cleaned have a close look at the mirror as well to make sure not grimy or dirty, usually can peek in from the rear and up to examine it.

From the age of the set it could also be the tubes getting old but that would be unusual as have seen this set before and the tubes do not usually fail---problem if in the video circuit presents some challenges as a lot of parts for this set are no longer available.

take a look at the mirror with a bright light to see if smudged or grimy---looking straight at it may not show the dirt.

I have a pioneer SD-532HD5, the red convergence went wacko and cannot adjust

A microchip controls the color convergence. There is no easy way to fix it. A new chip will be needed.

Removing the protective screen on our Pioneer SD-532HD5

Pop the bottom front cover off (that is over the speakers) first. This will expose 2 brackets that hold the moulding around the screen in place. Un-screw the brackets enough so you can get the moulding off and take it off. Once the moulding off you will see the brackets that hold the actual screen in place. Loosen these brackets and VERY carefully remove the screen (it will wobble and bend so I would recommend 2 people do this). Lay the screen down on a soft surface that will not scratch it. Clean and re-install screen, tighten brackets, re-install moulding, tighten brackets and pop the speaker cover back on.

Pioneer projection blurry picture

Sounds like you lost the converigence. Have you tried to realign the convergence through the user menu? Try that first and see what happens.

Pioneer SD-532HD5

This fault happens with just about any tube type projection set. The convergence IC's simply need to be replaced. They are two black, 2"X3", stand up ICs that will start with the letters STK on the surface of them and are mounted up against a large metal heatsink. If you have the soldering skills this should not be so hard for you to do, but please if you do not have the skills or experience to replace these IC's call in a pro to assist you with this repair. Good Luck
