I have a galaxy dx55v radio in my truck. When i pick up the mic to talk someitmes it works and sometimes it doens't. Have tried different mics with no help. Have taken it to a tech and they changed a diode so they say and it worked for a week then back to the same. Seems if i place the mic in different places or wiggle the connector going into radio it will work but can't find anything wrong. When talking it will just cut out then move mic and it works. I know really sounds like a mic problem but have tried known good ones and it didn't fix the prob. Any ideas.

Hi cb,
Welcome to FixYa.
My name is John. I will be assisting you with your issue.
You will need a soldering iron for this. First, remove the cover from the radio.
You will need to check where the mic plugs in the circuit board, check for
loose connection in solder joints, just re-solder this area and you should
be good to go. I hope you find this solution helpful.
Thanks for choosing FixYa.
John

My Cobra 29 LTD sometimes does not work even though the lights remain on. In other words I can't talk on it or hear anyone even though it appears to be operational

Your mic or mic jack is faulty. Try a different mic. In cobra 29's and some other variants, when you disconnect the mic, the audio is disabled. It will still receive, and transmit(possibly) but you will hear nothing from the radio.

It could be,
  • Broken wire on the back of the mic jack in the radio.
  • Broken wire in the mic cord.
  • Disconnected wires in the mic for the switch.
  • Dirty mic connection pins.
Most likely the problem is with the mic, and not the radio.

Have new dx959 doesnt get out very far talking 100yrds or so use rdking 56 mic mic works fine on old radio pc 78 and gets out fine also are 959 radios ok or junk has good reception

The DX959 has an output power setting knob. It's located next to the channel selector and is labeled RF Power. Turned counterclockwise will reduce output power. Turned clockwise will increase output power. Your switch is probably turned all the way counterclockwise resulting in low transmit volume.
Also, make sure the wiring for the RK59 is correct for the Galaxy. Even though it's a 4 pin plug, the pinouts may be different for the Uniden and Galaxy radios. Do a Google search for mic pinouts for your two radios to check.

Galaxy 95T

check SWR's check to make sure ALL coax connectors are tight. and if still doing it. may be loose connection in board. but the export style radios go crazy like that when coax is loose or have bad grounds. due to there floating ground circuit design. there not the same as a cobra were its case is ground.
