I have a sony kdf-e55a20 that cuts out picture and sound then comes back on maybee 15 seconds later. it now happens about every 5 to 10 minutes. do I have a lamp going bad or a bad lamp driver? how do I find out without buying both? Thanks, Joe

Seems lamp issue that reached to end of its working life and requires replacement.
If lamp has not been replaced in last 2-3 years, change it.

This happened to me too. It would go off for 30 seconds and retun for a minute only to go off again for 30 seconds. I replaced the bulb and this appears to have solved the problem!

I think a new lamp will solve the problem. It may need a claeaning. This TV is known for optical block failures soon after a lamp replacement. Call Sony for details

Lamp inside of your TV set is nearing end of lifespan. Replace it.

I found several instances of this probllen on various forums, and determined that it is the bulb after all. It seemed that a bulb should either work fine or be burnt out, so I thought it might be something else, but so many other customers had this identical problem that I am 99% sure it is the bulb. I found a replacement bulb with housing for about half the price of the Sony Store, so i ordered it. In the meantime, another customer offered a suggestion to try adjusting the Power setting to Power Saving instead of Standard. I tried this last night and the picture worked fine! I will replace the bulb when it arrives and keep the old one on hand in case this happens in the future. Thanks to all of the posters out there!!!

Its time to replace Lamp. Please buy original Sony Lamp for Sony TV and avoid aftermarket or compatible parts for good performance of TV.

After being on a little while, the screen goes black (no audio as well) for 20 to 30 seconds. Green light stays on. Then, picture comes back on and takes a couple of seconds to get up to full brightness. About 5 seconds or so after the video comes back, the audio returns.

Until this morning, has only happened a couple of times a day, now happening more often. About 3 times in last 20 minutes.

KDF-E55A20 is about 3 years old.
