Flash drives are STATIC Drives with no mechanical functioning parts. This kind of apparatus can be shunted or discharged by electrical disturbances. For example, a static charge, somewhat like when you rub your feet on a carpet and touch a door knob "POP, you get a spark". So, if the flash drive receives an electrical discharge or it is pulled from the USB Port without properly ejecting it, it can render the flash drive dormant. The data will be lost and usually can not be retrieved. That is why you should always make a secondary back up of important data on another drive.

SOURCE: My flash drive will not operate when plug into my lap top.

Hello kjh87....
1) If you are using a USB cable with your device, check the cable to make sure it matches the speed of the device. Use USB 2.0 cables with USB 2.0 devices and USB 1.1 cables with USB 1.1 devices. Swap cables and check the device, if this does not work, proceed to Step 2.
2) Next, open Device Manager and look under the heading for USB Serial Bus Controllers. If there is a device with a yellow exclamation mark next to it such as USB Mass Storage Device. Double-click on the entry and check the Device Status. If the status shows something like
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
proceed to Step 3.
3) The easiest way to solve a USB error code 10 in Windows XP

C.Click on the Hardware tab
D. Click the Device Manager button.
E. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers section.
F. Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.

SOURCE: SanDisk Cruzer 4GB Micro - not recognized by computer

Well, Hello!

The Scandisk use two drives. One is a cd-rom emulation where the U3 utility resides and run. the other is the disk itself. Try the device on other computer and try other usb devices on your computer and analize the results. Note: On a Mac you only will see one disk drive.

Is your computer recognize other storage devices and you U3 disk doesnt work on other computer the drive is most likely to be corrupted. In this case you will need to install the uility from Sandisk to recover the functionality of your drive.

SOURCE: My flash drive wont do anything when i plug it to my computer.

I devised these simple steps that tend to remedy quite a few issues with most USB portable / external hard drives and OTHER devices (though not always)

A few things to check but assumes USB and Windows for other interfaces / operating systems (mac/ Linux) similar steps may be adapted to suit.

1. Ensure it is connected directly to the computer to a USB 2.0 port not a USB 1.0 port as this can have effects on performance and reliability

2. Use only the cables that came with it NOT one that fits that may have been lying around or is longer. Not all USB cables are equal even though they should be)

3. Do not connect through an external USB HUB unless that hub is USB 2.0 AND has its own power supply.

4. Use ONLY the power supply that came with it if it has an external power supply Don’t use any other unless you know it has both the same voltage and current rating e.g. 12V 500mA anything rated below that would not work properly.

5. Always use the same port for connecting your devices. Some devices do not like being switched about. If switched they may want to install software / drivers again. This can be especially true if you move a HUB to another port

If you checked and fixed anything there and still have issues then check your hardware from CONTROL PANEL / SYSTEM / HARDWARE.
Any exclamation marks by hardware need fixing before you investigate any further

USB flash drives can fail for no apparent reason.
Sandisk Cruzers are especially bad for this.

USB hard drives should be treated with extreme care.
This is a real hard drive ! and knocks and bumps can quite literally kill them.

It is possible to remove drives from the enclosures in most cases and connect directly inside a PC to fully check it.

Note that if you hear a drive clicking or pinging this could be the worst thing you would hear.
Known as "The Click Of Death"

If none of the above steps help look at updating the drivers from the manufacturers web site in the support section.

SOURCE: i have a 8gb Cruzer Flash drive, when i conect it

I have 4 just like it and I've never had this kind of problem (Windows XP SP3). Have you checked the USB port(s) in Device Manager to insure there's not a problem there? Try rebooting the computer with the drive plugged in. You can recover the data on it using a program like BadCopy Pro (or similiar) providing you don't do anything to overwrite or erase the files on it first.

I am plugging in my Maxtor 80GB external drive and the green light flashes but the device doesn't come up on my computer. The computer is USB 2.0 so it's not that! Please help, my course work is all on...

Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel. Once there, open Add Hardware. It will scan for any new hardware devices that have been plugged in, including through USB. If it fails to find your Hard Drive, don't despair, all you have to do is go through the list of devices it has listed. If your device isn't listed, chose the bottom choice, "add a new hardware device." First try to have it search for the hardware automatically. If that fails, install it automatically from a list. You might need drivers for the Hard Drive, so it would help to go to Maxtor's site before you begin and find the appropriate driver for your model of hard drive, so you'll have it on hand when and if it asks for it. Once that's done, your hard drive will be recognized and all of your data will be accessible. Best of luck, and if you need further assistance, just ask.

Code 37 on dvd drive

The Code 37 error may occur when the concerned device is not connected to the system correctly and when its driver is faulty. A code 10 error is common when you add or remove USB devices or video & sound cards to and from your PC. When these errors occur, you may receive the error message given below.
Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)
To resolve code 37 errors, first ensure that your device is properly connected to your system. For instance, check all the cables of your printer or check that your sound or video adaptor is properly seated in its slot.
Try to remove and reinstall the device, and run the Add New Hardware Wizard from the Control Panel to see if Windows detects and installs it. If this does not resolve the issue, then update the device driver by performing the following steps:
1. Open Control Panel and select System.
2. In the System Properties dialog box, select Hardware tab, and then click on the Device Manager tab.
3. Scroll down the Device Manager window and identify the faulty hardware from the list.
4. Right-click on the hardware and select Update Driver.
5. Follow the screen instructions to resolve the error.
If these steps do not resolve your error, then the problem might be with your device. Get it checked by an authorized technician.

DVD DRIVE NOT BEING RECONISED

This is a solution for error code 41 but it may assist you with your problem.

A driver was loaded but Windows cannot find the device. This error occurs when Windows does not detect a non-Plug and Play device.

If the device was removed, uninstall the driver, install the device, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall the driver. If the hardware was not removed, obtain a new or updated driver for the device.

If the device is a non-Plug and Play device, a newer version of the driver might be needed. To install non-Plug and Play devices, use the Add Hardware wizard. Click Performance and Maintenance on Control Panel, click System, and on the Hardware tab, click Add Hardware Wizard.

On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.

Good luck.

Computer does not recognize player (Mambo TouchFlix by Kaser Corp.)

if it doesn't create then you probably need to manually add the device. sounds like your plug and play is toggled off for the device. plug it in and go to your control panel and click printers and other hardware. then on the left side menu you should see add hardware. go there and the wizard should detect the device as recently added but not installed and gives you the option to install. let me know if this helps. and good luck
