A simple safety teast.
Place 1/2 litre of water in a glass container. Measure the temperature of the water.
Place in microwave and heat on full power for 1minute.
Measure the temperature after it has stood for 1minute.
If the temperature difference is more than 9 degrees Celcuis the magnetron is working and producing about 700Watts of heat.
If your microwave is labelled with 900 or 1000Watts. That is about right.
If the temperature is less then the magnetron is not working properly and may need replacing.

This a only a rough guide and any doubts you should consult an authorised service agent.

My LG MC 7148MS is not working. Light is on and inside tray is taking round properly but it is giving heat

If everything works, but the microwave oven does not heat, this is commonly caused by a failed magnetron. The magnetron is the heart of the microwave oven and produces the RF energy that is required to heat your food. In order to replace a defective magnetron, you will need to consider the following:

1. You will need to uninstall the oven from over the range in order to replace the part (you will need to do this anyway, if you decide to buy a replacement oven).

2. Ensure the oven is UNPLUGGED before servicing anything inside the cabinet and remove the exterior case in order to access the magnetron. The High Voltage circuit in these ovens produces between 3,000 and 4,000 VAC and should not be worked on unless you electronics saavy. In addition, these ovens should NEVER be turned on, or serviced with the exterior cabinet removed, or high voltage network protective cover removed.
Here are several websites that you can use that illustrate how the oven is assembled:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com

Repairclinic.com is another great website for parts, and has part illustrations/photographs, but does not have the exploded view to show how the appliance is assembled.

NOTE: If you've never repaired an appliance on your own before, a microwave oven is usually not a recommended appliance to start with. Some models can be rather involved in taking apart.

3. The magnetron replacement cost will depend upon the MODEL NUMBER and generally costs between $100 and $200.

Use your appliance model number and review the parts illustrations at the recommended websites to identify and locate parts, and to see if this is something that you may be able easily take apart and reassemble.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Hi there, I have a LG model: LMV1640DW1 microwave oven. Everything seems to be ok, but does not heat my food. The microwave is fairly new (feb 2008)

Possibly high voltage fuse or diode. If it is an inverter model may be circuit board problem. Not advisable to try and fix yourself very high voltage build up could still be present, contact your local repairer.

Microwave light comes on and turntable revolves when food is put in, but it doesn't heat food up. Food remains cold, can you help? thanks Dee

9 times out of ten it is the magnatron that has gone bad, that is the device that creates the microwaves for heating the food. Check inside the cabinet for fuses and if none found or blown then it is the magnatron. These are available widespread but most cost about as much as a new oven, so do a google search on your make and model of microwave and search for a magnatron for that unit. This will bring up parts suppliers and their prices and you can decide if it is worth fixing or replacing

MY LG microwave oven model no MH6344W does not heat the food .The oven is fine after 1 minute microwaving if i remove the food it is as cold as it was. What would be the reason please explain. I tried...

Hi,

If the food is not being heated it means the magnetron is not working. The magnetron is the device which generates microwaves which heat the food. It could be the magnetron itself which is faulty or it could be one or 2 other components causing the magnetron not to work. You will have to take your microwave oven to a service center to determine the exact cause & get a repair quotation.

Let me know if you need further assistance.
Best wishes,
Graeme

Won't warm food and takes long

Chances are the magnetron is failing, or you have a bad connection at the magnetron.

Will not heat food eveything works but will not heat

Hi,
The device which emits microwaves and heats the food is called a magnatron. You will have to take it to a repair shop to determine if the magnatron is faulty. Also check all internal fuses and/or loose or burnt wires before sending it in for repairs.
