could be a broken drive belt or loose terminal on the battery

idling rough and misfiring are indications of a problem injector/s , low fuel pressure as well as electronics
obviously the mechanic did not use a scan tool to determine the problem area and is fixing by replacing
Take it to an accredited service center that works on your make of car, have the codes read first then get a quote for repairs
repairing by replacement is costly for you so find a shop that knows the procedure for trouble shooting

check to make sure the main wire going to the starter is tight mine was corided and did the same thing ..just a thought

Looking at the motor from the front it is on the right hand side , it is down pretty low so it is hard to see it , always check fluid when hot and the van is on level ground and is running also

on the trans first, install it on the shaft and rotate it while pushing in , you should hear or feel it lock in place

If its a diesel then replace the fuel filter unless you know when it was last changed (OK if less than 20k ago)

on transmission has 2 wires at right side of trans .by axel
