Kevin,
there is a fuse that can be checked. Unplug your microwave and turn it around and remove the screws holding cover on and then remove the cover. Look for where the power cord goes into the back of the unit and follow the black wire from the cord to where it ends. It should stop an either a circuit board or a fuse holder. Make sure that you replace the fuse with the same amperage fuse as what you take out. You will find the amp rating stamped on one of the silver collars on each end of the fuse. Good luck!
They are relatively easy to fix, but perhaps, not cost-effective. It depends on the age. I never bother with anything over 8 years old unless it's a very inexpensive fix. If the high voltage rectifier is bad, I'd fix. If the magnetron is bad, I would not fix. Other possible causes of the problem exist, too.
Ufortunately the magnetron is the most likely problem, "heats food" and is the heart of the microwave oven. If the device is five years old or more cheaper to replace the item.
Hello there: If it It sounds normal, and seems to run ok but there's no heatWhen
the microwave sounds okay, but there's no heat, one of the internal
door switches, the high voltage circuitry, or the megatron or power inverter or the circuit board may have
a problem. To resolve this problem, you need the assistance of a
qualified appliance repair technician.
ok hope this helps best regards mike
if everything works except the heating, it is most likely the mag tube is on its way out.........that is the most common reason for it not too cook.......since the microwave is a GE and it is 3.5 years old, i would say you are better off buying a new microwave, the mag tube starts at around $70.00 and up + the labor it costs too have a service person put it in........around another $60.00
If the food in the cooking compartment is not heating at all, then you may have one of several components related to microwave energy generation that have failed or became disconnected internally.
Magnetron Tube, HV Capacitor, Filament Transformer or any number of sensors that disable power to the system. The control board could also cause the system to noty function correctly.. You wanted general inputs.. there ya go.. LOL
Not sure I told you anything you didn't already know but you should ask the tech what he did after he gets it going...
Regards,
Rick
