The 31 indicates a motor movement problem. The 10 indicates which one. I don't have the manual handy so I can't look up the specific motor movement that is wrong. These units are tricky to work on and are not DIY repair machines. Please seek an authorized service centor for this repair.

How do you know with direction to put the battries in as their is no markings, Does it not have a polarity?? also how many and what size battries does a GVD -505A Live Wire take

Just changed my batteries 2 LR44 batteries positive side goes toward the back of the device, There are no markings on the holder to determine polarity!

I went out and bought two "EPX76" batteries for the "GVD-505A" Live Wire Probe, when I put them in, the probe still doesn't work. Any suggestions as to which way they actually go in or what else may be...

The batteries are piggybacked with the positive side facing the non-hot side.

Can't open to change batteries

Need to grab it tight on both sides at black end by pocket clip, and wiggle slightly and pull out at same time. Pocket clip comes off with it.

Irregular function of tester GVD-504A

There are two button cell batteries located in the top of the unit. Try removing the black cap. Some twist off and some pull straight up. Note the polarity of the batteries.

How to change batters on GVD-505A

It is NOT the tip that slodes off but the pocket clip. Just slide the clip up, away from the tip, and you will see the batteries.

Irrational Battery message on Sony GV-D1000 My Sony GV-D1000, which has worked just fine for years, now exhibits this behavior: Whenever I try to rewind more than a few minutes on the tape, it stops, displays the message "For InfoLithium Battery Only" and then shuts itself off. NOTE: I have never used a battery with this deck, I power it only with the supplied power adapter. It is my editing deck.

Sony GV-D1000 won't record through firewire from FCP I'm trying to save to tape from Final Cut Pro 5 back to the miniDV tape via the Sony GV-D1000 but it isn't working. Perhaps I don't have the settings in FCP correct.
