Bearing pointer Geocaching, on the screen that has "Delete" "Map" "Go To" at the bottom, the unit originally went to the map when I pressed the "Map" and went to the compass with the bearing pointer when I pressed the "Go To" button. Now the unit goes to the map when I press either the "Map" or the "Go To" button. If I force the thing to go to the compass page by pressing the "PAGE" button is will stay there for a while than go back to the map. The compass works the bearing pointer seem to point to the last location the map indicated for me to turn, it no case does it point to the programmed coordinates. I have no idea what I did to cause this problem but it causes me to not like the 60CSx. I would like the map to get my car and I close and than the bearing pointer to take me on in. Any help will be appreciated! [email protected]

Do you have your unit set for north up or track up? This might cause this problem.

SOURCE: I want to go Geocaching and I want to know how to enter Lat/Long or update my equipment to this?

well i'm a great geocacher and i love to help people with the GPS'rs
so you found the guy :))))
It may not be the easiest approach, but you could create a custom POI file for your Geocache locations and then load them into your c330 using POI Loader.

If you're a premium member on Geocaching.com, it's my understanding that you can download locations in GPX format. POI Loader is supposed to read GPX files, but I haven't tried it with geocache locations yet.

Do you have a geocaching account that can download GPX files?

Someone told me that you can use Long/Lat with Google Earth, and you can save Google Earth POI's in GARMIN .cvs format, to use in the PIO Loader.

SOURCE: the coordinates that I get are 30 metres off from the other GPS units that we geocache with. My settings must be off.

Yes, have you enabled WAAS on your 60CSx? WAAS is an acronym for Wide Area Augmentation System, according to the instruction manual an FAA funded service to improve overall integrity of the GPS signal through North America.

If you are in an area which is not serviced by ground stations, having WAAS enabled may degrade the signal from the GPS satellites. Try enabling or disabling this feature.

To do so, acess the System Startup Page. On the Setup Menu page, highlight the System icon and press Enter. WAAS is the second available setting on this page.

Make sure your batteries are fresh; I prefer alkalines in this model. Set the battery type in the System Setup Page, same page as noted for WAAS above.

Another thought is to be sure you have the latest Garmin software installed. Visit their site to download the latest and greatest, free, of course.

SOURCE: map update notice screen

Resetting or trying to recalibrate the touchscreen does not work for this problem. Every time I try to reset or recalibrate, the Map Update Notice immediately pops up and I have not found a way to bypass this screen. I think this may be a glitch programmed by Garmin to force users to buy an upgrade after a couple of years.

SOURCE: How to Transfer Maps to GPSmap 60csx

You have use the unlock wizard to install the key that is provided with the software. When I bought my Mapsource CitySelect, it came with two keys. The way Garmin does it is, you can install the software as many times as you want on as many machines as you want, but can transfer the maps, data, etc ONLY to unlocked devices. Last I checked Garmin wanted $75 for additional unlocks. Some data is not locked, like Topo maps and some tide points since this data is obtained (by Garmin) from the gov't, which is free for us (wel, minus taxes we pay). Contact Garmin support, they are very attentive.

Ok so i have pressed the middle of the screen the message no detailed maps that support routing has gone have gone into address it now says no data available and still no maps

The original message of "No detailed maps to support routing" is typically caused by a missing or corrupted map file. It can also be caused by not having the proper map unlock key installed on the unit.

If that problem has been resolved and you can't obtain an address when setting a route, make sure that the map is turned on.

Go to settings, select the map icon and then the map info button. Make sure there is a check mark in the square next to the text that lists the map that you have installed on the unit.

If the map info button is grayed out, then you still have a map issue.

If the square does not have a check mark in it, press the square to place a check mark in the square. This will activate the map.

With this unit, you can put several maps on it and you can select which map will be active or inactive with the check mark.

Garmin nuvi 1100 gps. Screen says no map data. Is there a default setting?

The map may have become unselected.
Press TOOLS, the spanner symbol on the page that shows WHERE TO and VIEW MAP
Press SETTINGS or LOCALE on some models
Press MAPS and then at the bottom of the screen press MAP INFO
Your map name should be displayed. THere should be a tick beside it. If there's no tick press the map name and it will tick. The map is now selected and should work ok.

I attached my Nuvi 255W gps to my computer to register it and purchase new maps since mine were out of date. I downloaded the new software update after which the unit upon booting up said "no detailed...

When you went to TOOLS did you press SETTINGS and then MAPS and at the bottom of the screen MAP INFO.

When you press map info if the maps are still installed they should appear there. If there's not a tick beside the map name then it's unselected. Pressing the map name gets it selected again and could solve the problelm.

If you do need to download the maps again it may be possible, depending on how long it's been since they were downloaded or updated. (Usually it's possible for around 6 months after they were originally downloaded.)

  • Go to www.garmin.com and click the myGarmin tab at the top of the page. Log in using your username and password.
  • Click on the myMaps tab at the top of the screen and you should see your maps displayed.
  • Under your latest update you should see in blue writing a link called DETAILS
  • Click on the link and then at the next screen click on DOWNLOAD AGAIN
When you're following the prompts you'll come to one which gives you the option to download to the Satnav, Satnav and computer or Computer. Select Computer or satnav and computer. Then if you have a problem again with the map it will be easier to install it from your computer. You can find more details on installing from your computer and indeed all about updating your map at http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps

If you find that your map cannot be downloaded again buying a new update, if there's one available should solve the problem.

If you find that your map is locked you can get information on unlocking it at http://www.fixya.com/support/r6197735-no_detailed_maps_found_support_routing

If you have favourites saved to your satnav it's a good idea to back them up to your computer just in case you lose them. Details of how to do this are at http://www.fixya.com/support/r8422587-backup_restore_favourites_garmin_nuvi

I have no Maps when I turn on the Garmin, there is a blue arrow and thats all, no back ground at all

The map may be unselected. To select it;
  • Press TOOLS (The spanner icon on the right bottom of the page that shows WHERE TO and VIEW MAP)
  • Press SETTINGS or LOCALE on models that don't have a SETTINGS icon
  • Press MAPS
  • At the bottom of the screen press MAP INFO
This takes you to a screen that shows whatever maps are on the satnav. If there's not a tick beside the map name the map is unselected. Press on the map name and it will become selected. This should solve your problem.

Etrex vista will not display any map

I had the same problem for months. i don't know what part of this worked or if it was a fluke that it finally worked. I downloaded the newer firmware for the garmin and installed it ( http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/ ) then tried adding maps, that didn't work, then tried 3-4 times resetting the garmin, and each time tried adding maps and it didn't work - turns out I wasn't really resetting it (I think) it appeared that the successful reset was holding down the clicker key and the pages key while starting up, and keeping them held down for a long time (15 seconds?) - there was no sign that it was resetting except a faint illumination, then when I let go of those 2 keys it went through the setup sequence. the only way I knew it had finally reset was when the page came my pointer was in the middle of the united states. I had repeatedly tried resetting before and the pointer/map page came up to where I was last at, so it hadn't really been resetting. I'm very displeased that it took 5-10 tries to get this to work and this happened on 2 units.

I reloaded the maps after it had properly reset and they actually display and are on the map list!
this is the second etrex unit ive had this problem with, and the first one was just as flaky - taking many reset events (see master and super master reset on other etrex threads at this site)
