Just got a new Garmin Nuvi 255 GPS and they said go and register where do you go to register it......thanks martha.

You need to have your satnav registered to update it. You can find details of how to register and update it at http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps

Right now your unit will work right out of the box. If you want to register the unit with Garmin, then there should be a card inside, or directions for online registration. As for updates, maps will be updated every year, with firmware updates periodically added. For the first 5 years of owning your gps, I wouldn't recommend paying the map update fee, as they often contain very little new information. They mainly encompass new developments, etc.Lastly, be sure to enjoy your Garmin, its one of the best car gps devices on the market.

Get serial number off unit(on bottom on that unit I believe)and go to garmin.com

You should register it, Garmin gives you free download of 2010 maps. On the GPS go to Tools, Help, use down arrow to find General Information, click it and then scroll to "Registering your Nuvi" Instructions are on the screen. http://my.garmin.com (make sure GPS is connected with USB first.

All that is necessary to do is to connect to the Garmin web site at http://www.garmin.com and register your GPS on their site. After you are properly registered then all you will need to do is go to the support tab and then you can update your map. Let us know if you have any problems.

Just go to http://www.garmin.com There will be a registeration link. Yes I think that you will get a free mapupdate with your registeration at least they used to do that. You will need your unit serial number and model.
