Hi,
I dont have any heat inside the van. It's not the thermostat or heatng matrix. i belive it's either the heater control switch or the flap is stuck. My problem is that I cannot find where the heating control flap is and I wanted to check this before replacing the switch.
Thanks

It isn't enough for the thermostat to work but also to verify both the heater (water) flow and return is getting virtually as hot as the top radiator hose as systems can airlock and sometimes other things can happen.
The heater matrix is unlikely to be blocked or coated considering the age so if plenty of heat is potentially available the reason it isn't emerging in the car is likely to be a matter of control - jammed flaps, disconnected linkages, faulty electric or vacuum servos, electric or vacuum supply interrupted or defective control circuitry.
sound like heater matrix leaking coolant.matrix is a small looking radiator inside housing where hot coolant pass through in which when turn on heater heater airdoor or flap door opens when turn on heater controls to get heat sound like matrix leaking. in the UK its called matrix here in the U S heater matrix called heater core.
On top of the heater matrix is a flap and i suspect that this flap isnt lifting to allow the air through ,on this age car i suspect its a cable and the operating plastic wheel has broke or the outer cable has come adrift from its anchor point you will just have to follow your nose and have a look and as a temp thing wedge the flap open with something
The van may have cable or vacuum control for the vent flaps.
Check if the defroster, vent controls are working
If they are, your vacuum lines are good,or your cables are good
Switch from cold to hot.listen for the flap moving(most likely under dash to right of drivers
foot)
Look to see if the heater core had been bypassed(if bought used)
If the flap for cold/hot is not working ,look under dash at center console
try to flip lever manually
hi this could be a couple of things, first is thermostat, this might not be opening so the water is not circulating around all of the system and when you turn on the heat, the small matrix heater inside acts like a radiator itself, or your main radiator fan is not working, hence the same as above, check the main fan on the radiator is coming on when the temperature gets to its normal running, if it does not then either the fuse has blown, or the temperature switch for the radiator is not working and needs replacing...hope that helps
control flaps on heater unit ,have a play and as a temporary job jam the right flap open with piece of wood *** packet ,anything ,but get some heat into jam jar its dangerous driving with no demister and cold feet and fingers ,hate the cold ,its so painful
the cabel from the heat dial to the heater box behind the dash could be snaped or jamed thus not opperating the lever which operates the flap which open and closes the heat box next to the matrix. or if your coolant is brown in colour it could be your matrix is clogged with sedament and needs flushing out. or it could be your water pump not pumping coolant round your engine or it could be a knackerd thermostat i hope these will help you id start with the easyest first thermostat
Stuck on heat flap won't open and close to switch to air in duck work
